God I hate AI “artists”. I’m sorry but I have no respect for people who just type in a little prompt then go and make money off it, claiming it’s their work. To quote Hayao Miyazaki(co-founder of Studio Ghibli), “I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself”. I’ve seen so many different opinions on Reddit and other social media and I thought I’d make my own statement. I love drawing. I love seeing the many different styles that people draw in, like, wow, someone drew this! I’ve been inspired by a lot of different artists out there and any artist knows that drawing takes time. It takes time to learn, time to grow, and AI can do it in seconds. I saw a video on TikTok where a user described it and used cake as a metaphor. You work really hard to bake a cake, then someone comes along, cuts a slice of your cake, and claims that they made the slice. Same can be said for people who trace artwork and say it’s theirs (although tracing can be good for learning things like anatomy and poses, but please don’t steal other people’s hard work). I’ve loved drawing since I was a kid and I’ve worked hard to teach myself how to draw. I’d feel pretty damn pissed if one of my pieces was stolen by someone who then claims that they made it. I still have lots to figure out and I’d love to learn more, but I will NOT use AI to make that progress. Sorry not sorry. Take the time to learn. Take the time to grow.
On a lighter note, how does someone start with digital art? I’m used to paper and pencil but like… pretty colors and shading and layering and watermarks… I have Sketchbook and IbisPaint X and I’ve tried digitalizing a few of my drawings or downright making new ones, but they end up looking weird oof. Massive respect to digital artists, and all artists in general.
