Reunion Part 3: Onward and Uplander

The Wyvern sprang up and bellowed to the heavens, causing Serene to flinch a little at the sound, the echo of the roar only being contested by the quiet crackling of Serene’s own aura.
She didn’t give the Wyvern a chance to do much else, with her hair whipping through the wind, Serene rushed at the scalekin like a bolt, leaving a streak of static behind her as she delivered a swift punch to the Wyvern’s snout, causing it to reel back before following up with a powerful left kick, knocking the Wyvern back down to the ground.
The beast writhed in pain, stunned briefly, though that was enough for the Roegadyn Monk to finish it off. Leaping high in the air directly above the Wyvern, Serene clapped her hands together, her aura being drawn into it, turning from a dull gold hue to an aetherial blue colour, shrouding her hands before being released into a wide, large beam that completely enveloped the Wyvern in it’s light.
A small, potent explosion was heard from way away in Tailfeather, the onlookers viewing a vapour mist of the Iron Feast’s water as Serene’s fight with the Wyvern ended swiftly and decisively.
The Wyvern lay, either dead or near enough, on the stone floor of the Iron Feast, it’s scales burnt harshly by Serene’s energy attack. The Roegadyn herself was resting not too far from it, trying in vain to wring her hair dry before tying it up in a ponytail again.
“You felled the beast!?”, one of the hunters sent to keep and eye on the woman excalimed, causing Serene to pause in her hair drying to look up at the small group emerging. She chuckles before smiling at them.
“Told ya I could do it, tough cookie, but he crumbled.”, she jovially exclaimed, as if fighting a Wyvern was no big deal. Each of the Elezen hunters sighed in exasperation and relief. The most experienced of the lot stepped up to Serene, who had got out a length of string, ready to tie her hair up.
“Miss, we thank you dearly for your assistance with felling this awful beast, we can’t pay much, but I’m sure we-”, he was cut off by Serene, who had the string in her teeth as she bunched up her hair.
“No worries...don’t want gil...just- ah, there we go.”, she let go of the string in her mouth to tie it in a knot, “I just wanna know the best route to the Hinterlands friend, I’m a member of the Adventurer’s Guild, so count this as a friendly favour, no need to pay anythin’.”, she nodded to herself as she worked the knot out and made it tight.
“I-yes...well if you follow the path out of the Chocobo forest, head to the old ‘Anyx Trine’ tower...not too close mind, more dragons call that place home, but if you head there and then follow the path directly opposite, you will be lead to the Hinterlands...eventually.”, the hunter explained, to which Serene nodded, hopping up, the Roegadyn looked damaged, but for reasons that the Elezens couldn’t fathom, she hardly looked worn out.
“Best be going...I’m keeping someone waitin’, bye, and thanks for that food too, never did-”, Serene was cut off before she could finish.
“Wait. If you won’t accept payment, at least accept a riding Chocobo for your journey, we have a few who are trained to carry passengers to the Hinterlands and back, we can set you up free of charge, it’s the ‘least’ we can do.”, the hunter proclaimed, to which Serry’s eyes lit up.
“Really? Is he, uh, she, hmm, they cute?”
Back in Tailfeather, Serene had acquired her temporary mount, a male Chocobo, of whom the hutners affectionally referred to as ‘Kurt’, an odd name, Serene thought, to be sure, but she found the bird cute and honestly didn’t mind much about the confusing name.
After giving her goodbyes to the hunters of the village, Serene’s journey to the Hinterlands took off. It wasn’t long until Serene saw Anyx Trine come into her view, and as soon as she spotted it she was beginning to pass it. The woman patted the Chocobo on the head, impressed with the bird’s speed and demeanor as it rushed through dangerous terrain, the Chocobo let out a ‘Kwen’ of affection to the Roegadyn, who hummed happily in response.
Before long, Serene was at the gate that marked the end of the Dravanian Forelands, and the beginning of the Hinterlands. She hopped off Kurt, gave him a bit of meat to eat, patting him and then sending him off on his way, turning to commence the remainder of her jounrey herself.
Hours passed as Serene tirelessly walked through the ever more mountainous expanse of the Dravanian Hinterlands. She was surprising herself, honestly, the walk from the end of the Forelands to this point was a fairly long one, yet in spite of that the Roegadyn Monk felt relatively little fatigue compared to what she would’ve expected. Was this the chakra point she had received back at the Iron Feast? Was it granting her a measure of stamina she had not achieved prior?
However as these thoughts ran through her head, Serene finally had reached her destination, a dilapidated cityscape of once grand structures, with one particularly curious ‘structure’ situation within the centre of a gigantic lake that split the landscape in two. Serene had finally reached her destination, the old city of Sharlayan. However, the Roegadyn wasn’t alone, it took nary a moment for Serene to notice herself, that she was surrounded.
“Uplander no pass! Gobblekin steal Uplander whirlygobs! Give!”, the odd figure that seemed to command the others demanded, Serene knew these creatures, at least second hand from what Albex had told her. Goblins, and these ones seemed unfriendly.
“Hey so-”
“ENOUGH UPLANDER! Gobble-folk relinquish whirlygob from corpse!”, The Goblin interrupted Serene as the group pulled what looked like cobbled together guns on her as a rusted, but fully functional magitek armour came into view, clanking as it readied it’s cerment drill at Serene, who had assumed a figthing pose.
“Hmm. figured, I’m glad to see I’m still right to err on caution, as always...Serene.”, a voice from the distance sounded out, it’s projection seemed unnatural, as if the person who was speaking was using a microphone, however Serene chuckled, before bursting out into laughter.
“Oh no, no you’re not stealing my thunder...”, Serene laughed out before a large bolt of lightning struck the magitek armour, frying it iinstantaneously, shocking the Goblins around it.
“...Fine, you stole my thunder...Howling.”

Howling Gale | Character Description
Howling Gale. Thaumaturge. Brother to Serene Gale and the son of Autumn and Lasting Gale.
The brains to Serene’s brawn, most of Howling’s childhod was spent with his sister dragging him by the arm to explore the vast expanses of Abalathia’s Spine before moving to Thanalan and settling with his family and their new life. When the Seventh Umbral Calamity struck, both brother and sister were mortified to find their parents missing. Without a moment’s hesitation both set forth on their own journeys to find them, Serene going to the Far East while Howling set his sights to the Far Northern reaches of Hydaelyn.
Howling, unlike his sister is more serious and rooted in his actions. He has a habit of overthinking things and trying to plan out everything he does, with an equally prevelent habit of getting into situations which quash such a train of thought. An accident when he was young left him with a ghastly scar on his face and an explosive temper that he has trouble controlling at times, but Howling tries his best to be polite and courteous to those he talks to. Enjoys experimenting with spellcasting.
Doodle: Icehoof Dancin’
Gale and Powderkeg cuttin’ a rug. I was bored at work and this seemed like a good way to round out the night. They make me laugh.
Corrupted Gale
This turned out so nice it almost spawned an entirely different project, but I’m not going to do it. Nope, leaving it at this.... >_>
