Loki is absolutely shocked that I finally got my green card! But now let’s get serious for a moment. Getting to this point took me/us five years and it wouldn’t be possible without me getting married to the US citizen. Now I came here because I wanted to be with the man I love, I came here because I chose it, I came here because I knew that I’m going to have lots of support from my husband. I felt quite safe and I knew that IF something would go wrong I could always go back to Europe without a fear of being killed, tortured, or put to jail. I had a place to stay, I had a work permission, I had a health insurance. Even though I got here in a legal way, the whole process of me getting the Green Card was long, humiliating and VERY expensive and for the whole time I was living in fear of being deported for no reason. People who are crossing the border illegally have less romantic reasons than I had. They don’t have any support, place to stay and perspectives of becoming legal US citizens at some point. And yet they do it. They are taking a risk and exposing themselves to all of that because this is their only chance to survive and make the best of their lives. They live in constant fear of deportation (I know the feeling, but can’t even compare my situation to their situation) and now losing their kids. They can go to jail for simply wanting a better life for themselves and their loved ones. I should celebrate today, but instead my heart goes to those who are not as lucky as I am. No person is illegal, we are all people and we all want good life, some of us are just less lucky and it’s not their fault, we should support those people. Everybody deserves a chance and as far as I know being a human requires us to act like a human-to have a heart, ethics, compassion and empathy. Be a human, don’t be a human garbage. #nopersonisillegal #greencard #lucky #dontbeajerk #satan #legalalien #alien #illegalimmigrants #legalimmigrant #howtobeahuman #beahuman #ifeellucky #americaisnotadreamland
