Spent most of my day listening to old #cassetetape of #LesterBangs opine on everything from exploitation films to the #Mc5 in a series of audio tapes that have made their way to me like unholy relics of rock. The best today was a bizarro gig on Wpix where Lester played dj, dropped s-bombs, played teenage jesus and the jerks, and played a mel blanc record of daffy duck doing anti-dope commercials. How To Be A Rock Critic

So for the first time since I started at the Public, I got to check out an Under The Radar Festival show. And. totes loved it. I laughed, I felt like I’d cry if I were in private, I felt what he described, and remembered the way music like that used to FILL me with hope (for whatever personal reasons). IMMEDIATELY started listening to The Velvet Underground and The Stooges like I know somethin’.

Saw How to be a Rock Critic, an excellent play about Lester Bangs, thanks to @eli_thacker_taylor. Beautiful look at passion, obsession, those rare transcendent moments in art, and some great little jokes. #LesterBangs #PublicTheater #HowtobeaRockCritic (at The Public Theater)
