@oursdelespace: We don't know each other but I started following you because I plan to pursue a career in academia too (well, also because I like your content, obviously), and I really empathise. I'm afraid I have no valuable advice to offer, but I thought I'd drop a line to say good luck. I'm sure you'll find a way to deal with all of this.
Hey, thanks, and thank you for the empathy & good thoughts! Probably no one has valuable advice; valuable advice probably doesn’t exist in this situation, apart from “clone yourself” or “invent time travel.” But, you know, it’ll be ok.
@howtophd: *hugs* I wish I could help, but I have no idea where to start 90% of the time, so yeah. Maybe take a short break and start with something small that you can see quick progress with?
At least that means 10% of the time you have an idea where to start, right? Not necessarily the right idea, or even a good one, but it’s an idea. Haha. I’m kidding, I’m sure you’re doing great. And yeah, I tackled two of the shortest of my critical texts and got through them, which I know is objectively progress but mentally (existentially?) really feels like no progress at all. Oh well. Let’s keep at it.
I hope both of you have had good days/nights despite our mutual connections with the pit of despair!
