Happy holidays, Emmy!!

For the ship ask game (Band of Brothers, please? you are a gem💎) ... my biggest passion is storytelling, through art, writing, and theater. I am definitely a cat person (though I also like dogs) and can't wait to adopt one once circumstances fall into place. I am also an introvert who feels emotions very strongly and wears her heart on her sleeve. I joke about my trauma to cope lol but all I really want is to tell somebody wholeheartedly about what I've been through while they hold me. And cuddles!! My love language is 10000% physical affection. Also I think I'm pretty good at gift-giving so that's a thing too. I don't get fired up all that easily but when I do it's a firestorm. My sleep schedule goes from 10 hours of sleep to 2 hours and it's fine anyway I'm so glad you opened up requests for this and I can't wait to see what you come up with!

You guys are perfect together and really light up each other's lives during the holidays

Like you, George is a natural storyteller

More so in the way of acting, though

You both audition at your community theatre for It’s A Wonderful Life

George pouts all week about not getting the main role, George Bailey

He says that he would’ve been perfect, after all, he is a George, too ;)

You get cast as Mary

You help eachother run lines

George is also your hype man if you ever get stage fright or start doubting your own acting abilities

During final bows, he’s beaming with pride when he sees you out there on the stage

After the final performance, George convinces you it’s a good idea to throw the cast party at your apartment

Though you both love the cast like family, your favorite part of the evening is when everybody leaves

You like it, as an introvert, because that means you get to recharge

George likes it because it gives him a chance to cuddle with you on the couch

It’s the one time the man with actually stfu

Like you, George is also a physically affectionate person

He knows exactly how to nuzzle his face into the crook of your neck and kiss your ear after whispering “I Love You”

You both fall asleep on the couch, party streamers still on the floor, watching your favorite christmas movie at 2am.

The last thing you remember hearing is George mimicking some stupid line from the movie.

George is more than happy to keep snuggling you until 10am

He basically is insulted if you or anyone suggests getting up before 9am

Even though he gets up sort of late, he still has a fun activity planned for the day

It is the week before Christmas after all…

Though groggy, he drives you both down the street to grab a coffee/tea

He then drives you both to the Humane Society.

You look over at him skeptically

“What?” He shrugs. “I just want to take a look inside.”

So you both go in and George asks the volunteers to see the cats.

Your heart immediately starts swelling. George knows how much you love cats.

The volunteers bring out a new litter of kittens.

One of them immediately catches your eye - an orange tabby.

George is like a little kid in a candy shop.

He’s on the floor playing with the kittens, making funny cat noises.

Your heart already belongs to the orange tabby, who hasn’t left your side since you met.

George can tell how smitten you are with the kitten.

“We’ll take that little guy!” George tells the volunteer, pointing to the kitten.

“What?!” You turn to George.

“Merry Christmas, sugar.” George smiles up at you.

He tells you how he remembers you telling him one night how much you’ve always wanted a cat, and now that you guys have moved in together, you can finally start raising one.

“Maybe next Christmas we can invest in a dog.” George winks at you sweetly, relishing your delight at your new Christmas gift.

It’s going to storm, Joe muses. It’s dark earlier than usual, and he tries to burrow into his clothes a bit against the chill in the air as he stands on guard duty.

A small figure approaches in the distance, and when she gets closer, he bites back a laugh at the scowl on her face. 

“Shift’s up,” she says quietly. “It’s going to rain.” 

“Who relieved you?” 

“Chuck.” She shifts her weight. “Who are you waiting for?” 

“Perco, I think.” 

She smirks. “He’s never going to shut up about guard duty in the rain.” 

Joe takes a minute to study Anna Cunningham. She’s always been quiet, but slowly but surely she’s starting to come out of her shell. He still thinks she’s got a screw loose for being here, but he respects her determination. 

There’s an unspoken agreement between Easy and Anna that whenever she has guard duty, whoever is posted near her walks her back to barracks. At first she balked at the suggestion, nearly got downright angry, but has come to accept it, if not appreciate it. 

Joe doesn’t mind, really. Some of the other guys balked at it, but after she was harassed by some guys from Fox in broad daylight - and a stern look from Lipton - they fell in line rather quickly. 

Perconte shows up after a few minutes, already grumbling. Lieb gives him a clap on the shoulder. “I’m sure you’ll dry out in a day or two.” 

“Shove it.” 

Anna grins, and Joe finds himself laughing along with her. 

Together, they head in the direction of a relatively warm bed. Overhead, lightning flashes. It gives Joe a brief second of clarity, and his eyes widen. 

“Cunningham--” He bites out, seeing her two steps away from falling into what seems to be a hastily dug foxhole or a sinkhole directly in front of her. 

One minute she’s in his line of sight, and then in the darkness, she’s gone with a yelp. 

“Shit.” He shoves his rifle onto his back and falls to his knees, looking down. “You alright?” 

She’s covered in mud. “Fine,” she grits. “Out of all the bad luck...” 

He can’t help it, once he sees she’s alright, he starts to laugh. “No offense, Cunningham, but you look like a drowned cat.” 

She glares at him. “Oh, go to hell.” She huffs. In a more plaintive voice, “Can you get me out of here?” 

“Here,” he says, still chuckling, reaching his arm towards her. “Hold on.” 

When he starts to pull, he has a swooping feeling in his stomach when he feels the ground beneath him start to give way. 

“Joe!” She says, and then he’s tumbling in, nearly landing on top of her. 

“For fuck’s sake.” He curses. 

“Two drowned cats.” She says, unhelpfully.

They’ve been in the hole for an hour. The ground is too muddy for either of them to hoist themselves out, and Joe suspects she hurt her wrist when she fell but won’t admit it. 

It’s much closer quarters than he ever thought he’d be in with Anna Cunningham, that’s for sure. 

Their shoulders are pressed tightly together, and he squirms. 

“Will you stop that?” 

He scowls. “Sorry for trying to make you more comfortable.” 

She rolls her eyes. “Lieb, the possibility of us sharing a foxhole in Europe somewhere is high. You think we’re going to have the luxury of personal space?” 

He squirms again. “It’s just that--” 

“I’m a woman.”

“Yeah, that.” 

She snorts. “Eloquent.” 

They both settle and get lost in their own thoughts. Joe is acutely aware of every single place her body presses against his, and while he can admit that she's beautiful, he absolutely refuses to let his mind wander in that direction.

"How long do you think we're going to be stuck down here?" She asks.

He shrugs. "Frank's gotta head back this direction before too long."

They're interrupted by footsteps, and then Anna is on her feet. "Hey!" She shouts. "Down here!"

A second later, Martin and Malarkey are there, first looking concerned, but it quickly morphs into laughter.

"And here we thought something happened to you." Martin scolds.

Anna's face screws up in annoyance. "Something did happen to me, in case you didn't notice."

Malarkey reaches a hand down. "Come on, between the three of us, we can give you a boost."

It takes a second, but Anna and Joe get out unscathed, their ODs caked in mud and soaked through.

Finally back at barracks, Anna peels off her jacket and Joe looks away quickly when she catches him staring.

He thinks this night is one of the most amusing he's had in a long time, even after falling face first into the mud and dirt. He knows it's because he was with Anna, and carefully files that tidbit away to be examined later.

Why does he keep checking his watch?

He doesn't worry, he never worries, because worrying is for a lesser class of human beings for whom failure is an option, and Nixons never fail, at anything, ever. If she doesn't show, why should that matter to him, when there are a million other fish in the sea who would be more than happy to show a man with his kind of money a good time?

And yet here he is, nearly checking his watch again, going over the phone call in his head, the date, the time, the name of the park, and just as he's going for his cuff she's there, wonderfully, amazingly, there, and he can breathe again.

"Worried I wouldn't show?" she asks, smiling and slipping her arm into his as though they've done this a million times before, and he can't bring himself to answer 'yes.'

“Well, I wasn’t going to do it this way,” says Don, then, decisive but winking at her in a conspiratorial way that tells her he’s none too serious, “but you leave me absolutely no choice, ma’am.”

“Oh?” Sarah leans closer to him, fully aware of his hand on her bare knee and that small smile he only seems to smile at her. She lowers her voice. Leans in so close that her lips brush his ear. “Did I force your hand, soldier?”

“Marry me,” he says, and she bursts into laughter at the barely-concealed mirth with which he says it. They’re both laughing on this bench in the middle of the pub – slightly drunk, slightly enamored – and she knows he doesn’t mean a damn thing even when his hand squeezes her knee and his face is almost void of jokes. “Sarah, I’m serious, you gotta –”

“This is the least romantic proposal I’ve ever heard,” she grins, and kisses his cheek. “I love it.”

This was not the first time that his big mouth had gotten him into trouble and it probably wouldn’t be the last time either.

“I reckon I could shoot an arrow through that window over there,” he pointed up at the tower and at the open shutters at the top. Of course Talbert had called him out on that statement and had wanted to see proof, Joseph would have done the exact same thing.

When he looked up from where he was standing in the courtyard, he could see Talbert leaning against the wall, waiting for him to take his shot, ready to shout “I knew you couldn’t do it!”

Joseph took a deep breath, nocked his arrow, took aim and let his arrow fly.
