Appearances: Harry Potter Ensemble - Pt 1.

So. As someone who writes a lot of fanfic, I don't always decide to borrow directly from the source material for the appearances of the characters. I'll admit that my canon compliance for that can be tangential at best; mostly down to hair and eye colour, whilst everything else is different. This can lead to some confusion in my fics, because my worst sin in this regard that i'm inconsistent in how I portray them. I have multiple fcs and sims of characters, and I sort of just swap between them at whim. So this is a masterpost list of all the different appearances each portrayal of the HP ensemble cast I use. I'll also try and say which fics I pictured as which faces, because why not.

Let's get started, shall we?

Harry Potter. [+ James Potter, because they're meant to be almost identical.]

First, we'll go with documenting the protagonist.

For a canon-compliant Harry, I made this artbreeder a while ago;

Lord above that's ginormous. Anyway. I'm not, like, 100% happy with this, but here it is.

As may be a fairly obvious choice, my main fc for Harry is Darren Criss. He does a great job fitting the visual aspect of Harry, and an even better job of him being identical to his father; Darren Criss makes a perfect James Potter. All you need to do is watch AVP to know that one.

And, as a sidenote; Look at them <3 this is the golden trio, right here!! Sure, Ron's a bit off, not tall enough, nose not long enough, but he works really well for the role, so I don't care.

But he does a pretty good broody harry, too, so I tend to think Darren Criss when I think Harry James Potter.

Again; for a slightly more book compliant Harry (aka; a wholly white Harry) there's a young Peter Capaldi. In these pics specifically, lol.

James Potter by Michelle-Winer on DeviantArt <- there's also this depiction of James as the actor for Will Graham from Hannibal, which works pretty damn well for both James and Harry.

Unfortunately, people don't credit as often as they should on Pinterest; (1) Pinterest this is a very good James, and if anyone happens to know who drew it, that's really necessary to know. He looks just like my James sim, fr. Took the image right from my brain.

He looks a little less like his dad and more like his mum here, which is Incorrect, but I still like these sims.

Ron Weasley.

Next up on the list is Ron.

I made this artbreeder a while ago. I think this is basically perfect, and looks exactly like how I think of him, except the nose is too short.

The blog is gone, but this art by xia-hainex has always been my favourite Ron fanart.

I'm very picky about Ron's face. I don't have an actor fc for him.

But I do have a sim :). You can see the influence, lol.

Hermione Granger.

Hermione has the most fcs out of the Golden Trio. 5 in total. First, her more canon-compliant artbreeder;

Next; those five fcs.

First up; a duo of fcs - one for her younger years, and one for that version's older years. Ella Eyre + Stevvi Alexander.

Of course, as shown above, there's always Bonne Gruesen, who played her in AVP. Which, as you can see, was an image that held a lot of mix dominance in the artbreeder (which I did through combining various images of these five women, plus some general tweaks.)

Nathalie Emmanuel is a version where Hermione kept the buck teeth :D. Would mostly be used in muggle AUs.

But this ^ really does look like book 7 Hermione during the horcrux hunt, don't you think?

Grace Byers is a bit glamorous for Hermione, I'll admit. Sometimes I use her for her mother, instead.

Elarica Johnson is the final fc option for HG, very similar to Nathalie Emmanuel. If I were to give HG a sister, she'd probably end up with Elarica whilst Hermione keeps Nathalie. Also an option for her mother, I suppose.

Because I should mention this; I often use Hayley Law for Mrs. [heacanon name: Eudora] Granger. I haven't actually got an fc for her dad, but the one consistent thing about him is that he's Jewish, but he can be european or african or middle eastern or whatever, I don't care about that part. (Same, really, for Mrs. Granger. The one prerequisite I suppose is that they not match; my Hermione is biracial, and has the specific complication of passing as (depending on the person guessing) either ethnically White British or solely Ashkenazi Jewish, even if her father is not that. Most people miss the black half of her ancestry if they never meet her parents. And, to note, thanks to the schools she was sent to and the care her family took, Hermione has never experienced explicit racism towards herself, and her first personal exposure to prejudice is the whole Muggleborn mistreatment thing. It hits her pretty hard :(.)

[And, to note; I know that my Hermione's ancestry does not match the ancestry of the FCs, and that the situation regarding... all that doesn't really work with some of them, but I'm also not really happy with any one of these, particularly. Hermione's always been the one I find hardest to cast, because my thoughts are so specific but not... exactly refined.]

This is my sim of her, which of course matches what's in my head better than any fc ever realistically could. She's also pretty close to the artbreeder, just, you know, better. Because it's not ai generated. (I tend to use artbreeder as a visual aid when creating the base ideas for things, nothing more.)

"I will get you," Narcissa said after your daughter while you were all getting ready to spend the afternoon in Narcissa´s favourite part of your property. You made sure your daughter wasn´t and couldn´t be cold and took an extra scarf just in case. Narcissa looked at you and you just shrugged your shoulders, knowing what would you get from her.

"It is not freezing here like on the North pole," she said only and you ignored her little note. Making sure you weren´t cold neither, you carried the scarf for your daughter out of the house, followed by Narcissa.

Your daughter... was a little different. The fact you and Narcissa got her through using dark magic was still on your mind. And you knew what could have happened after using that kind of magic, but your daughter was something you could never unlove. She was original and you loved her the way she was. Just like Narcissa did.

"Dromeda!" You called for her when she was so far away and your daughter turned to you as if she was standing right in front of you and there was no distance between you two. She walked closer to you and you knelt down to reach her level.

"Yeah?"

"You forgot your scarf love," you said and started making sure your daughter was all warm. When you were finished with wrapping the scarf around her neck, her pink cheeks let you know about that she was feeling cold after all. You gently pecked her cheek and then you kissed her onto her forehead. As you looked back into her eyes, you found your daughter zoned out. "Now you can go and continue in playing. I am right here with mom okay?" You asked her and Andromeda didn´t give you any answer. As always.

When she started walking away from you, you backed away. Narcissa hugged you with one hand around your waist and you leant into her, still watching the little piece of you and Narcissa walking in the garden.

"Do you think that she will be okay with it?" Narcissa asked you and you knew what did she mean. You looked up into her beautiful eyes your daughter got from her and frowned a little, letting Narcissa know that you didn´t really understand her question.

Still not answering you, Narcissa slid her hand lower and took your hand into hers. She was wearing gloves what made you think of that if that exact thing was the reason why her hands felt always soft. Literally always.

"Okay with what?" You asked out loud this time, still with the question in your eyes as you both started walking the path your daughter had walked few moments ago.

"With that she is different," Narcissa finished her own tought and you understood. You looked at the little blonde who was playing with the leaves at that exact moment and you sighed.

"I don´t really know. I can´t see into her head, but I know that she sees the other kids are different. Just look at Scorpius," you said but you knew that you wanted to defend your daughter. You didn´t have a need, you knew that Narcissa was in that with you, you just wanted to say it out loud. "She is our miracle. I can´t be thankful enough for that we have her at the moment. And what if she is a little different? If we would have ten kids, and all ten of them would have authism, I would love them the most until my life wouldn´t end. And even after that," you said out loud and felt Narcissa´s hand brushing yours.

"I love you," Narcissa breathed out and a little cloud of smoke left her mouth. "Have I told you already?"

"I don´t think I remember that," you said frowning, even though both of you knew that you both said it all the time.

"I love you."

"I love you," you repeated after Narcissa and looked her into her deep eyes. You could see how similar Andromeda was to her. They both had the same face, same cheeks and nose. When you looked at Narcissa, you saw your daughter. When you looked at Andromeda, you saw Narcissa.

"You didn´t get me," Andromeda approached you and appeared in front of you out of nowhere. You took a step aside and looked at Narcissa with that kind of look "you messed up," and she rolled her eyes.

"I will get you now," Narcissa smirked at Andromeda and she squeled. Not giving her mother a chance of catching her, she immediately turned around and started running away from you two. As you wanted to look at Narcissa and tell her that she would better follow Andromeda, you found her already passing you and running after your daughter.

"You won´t!"

"I will!"

You watched them both laugh. You watched them both run. The woman of your life you were ready to spend the rest of your life with and your daughter you were ready to keep your eye on. They were your two girls, the two most important people in your life and you couldn´t imagine your life without them.

It didn´t matter to you how they were. That Narcissa was a perfectionist. That your daughter had authism. Those were the parts of the people you loved which deserved most of your attention and you were prepared to give your attention to them, as soon as you would return into the Manor.

Your lips curled up into a smile when you saw Narcissa pick Andromeda up. She made a little twirl with her in the air. The giggling you could only see, rang in your ears. You exactly remembered what was their laugh like. Narcissa´s was tender, but a little deeper than it was when she was in her twenties. Andromeda´s was that little girl laugh you liked to hear. And when you heard them both, your heart couldn´t be even happier.

You had a family you wished for. It didn´t have to look perfect for the others who saw your family from the outside. The only thing which mattered was that it was perfect for you. Because only you, Narcissa and Andromeda saw the love which was filling the rooms in the Manor. And you couldn´t be more thankful for your family.

just a little shout out to ron weasley for noticing what every single adult in harry potter's life failed to

for getting harry out of an abusive home as fast as possible, fuck the consequences

for being his friend through all the trials and risks and fights

for sacrificing himself

for noticing how thin and overworked he was

for standing by his side even when he disagreed with him, being worried and loyal even when they were fighting

for befriending the scrawny kid with the messy hair, choosing to sit with him before he ever knew who he really was

for never letting malfoy, death eaters or voldemort himself stop him from being harry's friend

yes, ron weasley was a flawed character. he could sometimes be jealous and oblivious, and often didn't see the truth until it'd slapped him in the face.

but it's these flaws that prove how wonderful he was.

ron weasley could be an arse and a jealous prick and he took offense too quickly and had a temper that sometimes didn't need a reason but.

despite his flaws. despite his issues and problems.

he knew in his bones, in his heart and in his head that none of it really mattered as long as the people he loved were safe. and it's that strength of character - acknowledging his short-comings and continuing despite his flaws - that makes him a great character, a wonderful person, a loyal friend.

he gets so much shit for his mistakes and it's frustrating how easily his achievements and brilliance is overlooked.
