Peavey HP Special Tremolo Moonburst One of the last great, American Made, Peavey guitars. This example has the Floyd Rose double locking tremolo. This guitar is virtually identical to the Peavey Wolfgang. After Eddie VanHalen parted ways with Peavey, the Wolfgang was slightly modified and released as the HP Special. This instrument has a basswood body capped with a generously thick, carved, figured maple top. Unlike the Wolfgang, there is no binding on the body so you can really see the chunk of maple used during construction (see photos). The neck is an unfinished hard-rock maple that is slightly thinner than the Wolfgang neck. Like its predecessor, the neck features birds-eye figuring. If you own one of these, you know how nice it is. Which do you prefer, the Wolfgang or the HP Special?
