dallen is the eldest son of cameron and eleanor tarth, the heir presumptive to his father's seat. raised in a loving home, his penchance for disappearing in the morning and coming back only at night, sometimes not even wearing the same clothes he left in, puzzled most in evantree hall. why would someone who had all he could ask for, have such a fascination with what was out there?
not even dallen is sure he knows the answer. all he knows, all he feels, is an urge, stronger than himself, or the sense of duty his family molded into the core of his character, could deny his lust for adventure. by the time he was sixteen, he was off, promising letters that came at irregular intervals, and stories. those he was never short of.
in a few years, his name started showing on bard’s lips all over the kingdom. his deeds, his inventions, his clever thinking praised in song. it is the life he was always dreamed of; so why would he, at this point, just as he was about to set sail for a long trip to see if a tale he heard of a land far beyond the sea was true, would he suddenly return?
simple. or, not so simple in this case, marriage. after getting into a small, inconsequential accident as he was helping build the boat that would take him on his expedition, his father decided it was time he got married. his father was able to get to the one chink in his armour: his duty to his family. presenting this as part of his duty to his father, to his siblings, dallen was unable, for the first time in his life, to talk his way out of something.
