Girls Match of the Week Sprague 4, Grant 4 Sprague took the defending PIL champs to the wire, claiming the 1st and 3rd doubles positions, as well as 1st & 3rd doubles and won the set tiebreaker. They followed it up with a dominant victory over another Portland HS stalwart, Lincoln HS to start their year 2-0. If the state wasn’t on notice before that they’re coming for the 6A state title, they know now. Oregon Girls Tennis Top 10

Notable Performers(Girls Tennis) Sydney Board(10), Tigard Dating back to last season, the Tigers #1 singles standout has reeled off ten straight matches win, five of those have been this season where she’s yet to drop a set. Ryan Lomber(9),Valley Catholic In three matches this year, the newcomer has given up a total of 5 games and helping her team match last season’s win total just 3 games into the season. Laina Atiyeh (9), Stayton Another freshman standout in the wide-open 4A division, who has made quite the impression in the early season, sporting a 3-1 record to start her career. Her lone loss? Valley Catholic’s Lomber. Shana Denham (11) / Sophie Denham (12), Nelson The future is bright for Nelson in their first year as a 6A program. This first-doubles duo have started the year with 3 straight wins as the Hawks head towards conference play. Kate DeVall / Megan DeVall (11), West Linn The DeVall duo’s hot start is anchored by a big win over Lake Oswego’s #1 doubles pair. If their early season results are any indication, they’re going to be ones to watch come districts time. Margaret Shively (12) Hillsboro Despite a loss to Mountainside standout Arushi Arora, HillHi’s #1 singles anchor led the state in wins (11) during last year’s shortened season and rolled into this year sporting a 3-0 record before her first loss.
