oh no… i knew this day would come….

i have been trying to think of a hels for cub for years now. his name… it’s so hard to hels-ify…. i also don’t really watch cub (nothing against him just not my vibe) so figuring out a defining trait is tricky.

from an outsider pov, the main impression i get of cub is mild-mannered insanity and commitment to the grind. i imagine his hels would be up to some truly wild, borderline game-breaking shit.

basically! his username is sminor1559, he goes by sean, and he has an irish accent. that’s about the extent of my development for him at the moment.

I remember a while back there was talk of Sean/Sminor1559 being a "horrifying marine animal" hybrid of some sort, so If nothing has been finalized yet might I suggest an unusual contender: Leopard seal hybrid (works as a reference both to the Scottish selkie AND the Irish take on merfolk being depicted *specifically* as seal-folk)!

ohhhhh u know what, i do remember that. in the au oneshot i did of tango and timmy in hels, i implied sean was some kind of aquatic hybrid who appears human when out of water (h2O anyone?) i think at the time i wrote that, limited life was the current series, and scott had the whole ‘mean gills’ thing going on. so i just threw a very vague reference out to it. i was picturing something more fishy for the gill aspect but honestly i wasn’t married to any specific concept (nor does mel’s design place scott as any kind of hybrid so his hels is FAIR GAME)

hello! i have an important, very important question! i wanted to write a fanfic about bravo/timmy, but i had a sharply depressive period and i couldn't write any of my projects at all. so i'll start again now! what is bravo's character outside of hels? you know, we saw him when he lived in the most terrible place for 10 years. of course, it's a huge stress, and he became aggressive, cruel and impudent. but judging by the art and the moments when bravo breaks down and shows himself and his feelings, he will get better in the solitary world, right? so what is his character in the ordinary world? surely he knows how to take care and love well? sorry for the mistakes, i use a translator

oooh what an interesting question… bravo is definitely a complex character who was changed drastically by hels, so imagining what he was like before requires reverse engineering tango. as a hels, the traits that tango got from bravo were rage and sadism. the rage is an extreme form of bravo’s temper, and the sadism is a twisted form of bravo’s superiority complex.

pre-hels bravo thought a little too highly of himself. these moments are most clearly seen in his introduction chapter (from eden part two). he gets what he thinks is an invitation to hermitcraft, and his attitude is kind of like “well it’s about time, i clearly deserve it.” he starts immediately judging what he thinks is hermitcraft, like “what, no one came to greet me? and ew why does their nether hub look so trash.” he cares a lot more about being ‘nice’ than ‘good’ though so he wouldn’t say things like this in front of other people, just private thoughts. he’s very unfamiliar with mob hybrid players and has some internal bias about that, thinking they’re automatically dangerous or weird, but if he actually made it to hermitcraft he wouldn’t have been outright hostile to any of them, cause that wouldn’t be polite to do.

i don’t think pre-hels bravo had a lot of close relationships with other players. after he was old enough to travel to other worlds, i imagine he mostly joined public servers so he could work with other redstoners, just casually but as a chance to learn (and show off his stuff a little) and then maybe made friends that way. if i ever sat down and came up with a detailed backstory for bravo, i’d want it to mirror what irl tango’s minecraft journey was like with something like the moonlight smp, a smaller private server, but still not too close-knit, nothing he’d view as a family. he probably worked well enough with other players but was prone to losing his temper at times, and had a bit of smugness that others might find annoying. but pre-hels bravo cared a lot more about what other players think, so he would’ve made an effort to be more polite and helpful, even if just to have a good appearance.

for the record, i think that if he’d actually gone to hermitcraft, he also could’ve been influenced to change for the better.

during bravo’s time in hels, he gradually became more of a pvper and less of a redstoner, just making small farms for survival. if he hadn’t been stranded in hels and cut off from the multi-net, he likely would’ve grown to be a far more advanced redstoner. pre-hels bravo specialized in massive hyper efficient mob farms, but it was almost always just an improvement to an existing design. creativity wasn’t- and continues not to be- one of his strong suits. pre-hels bravo is similar to early tango in that he isn’t a strong builder, but different in that he at least wants things to look nice. like, he wants his redstone farms to be neat and uniform, no blocks out of place. his builds were decent but boring.

in terms of personality, i try to write bravo with a similar speech pattern/mannerisms as tango, but very toned down. he tries very hard to stay calm and cool because of his temper, but when he gets worked up all bets are off. that’s when he’ll make all the crazy tango noises and drop “-ificator” and “skadoodle” and stuff. pre-hels bravo didn’t curse, either, cuz that’s not polite. he gets a lot more sarcastic and blunt after his time in hels, and has less patience.

so ultimately, pre-hels bravo was a decent guy and much easier to get along with, but a bit fake, smug, and short-tempered. bad pvper, adequate builder, efficient redstoner. after hels, bravo can never go back to who he was before, but he will learn in time to not be so aggressive and let go of his hate. i don’t think the harsh personality will completely go away but it’ll relax a bit, once he accepts that not everyone is out to get him. he may even find joy in redstone again and make an effort to form genuine relationships with other players, if his guilt doesn’t get in the way (but that’ll be a long, hard road. can’t wait to explore that someday…)

Will we find out why Dbubs has a pathological lying problem? Is it because of Bdubs’s tendency to dramatize things (ie his “perfect redstone”) and the like, or is there another reason?

aHAH i knew i’d answered a similar ask at some point (it was ages ago, so here) but basically yeah, it’s just from bdubs’s habit of exaggerating for comedic effect!

What would Cleo's hels be? HumanCleo? or did she already appear and I'm just a little smart?

all good! she hasn’t appeared yet, i think i shared a bit about her concept before but who knows how long ago that was. her name is humancloe (pronounced chloe) and she is indeed an ordinary human. but rather than armor stands, she dabbles in the far more morbid art of taxidermy (of mobs and players).

i don’t have a future plot planned for her atm but i’ve done a lot of thinking about how her taxidermy works in-universe, like how she’d be able to kill mobs or players in a way that leaves a body behind. it’d be neat to get into all that someday but i’ll save it just in case i do decide to bring her to the au for real.

updated grian and martyn’s watcher backstory for the HTP au (y’all know the drill by now: this won’t feature in the main storyline but it is canon to the au. also read here for some general watcher info)

old canon: grian is a watcher and martyn is a listener.

new canon: yes, but also no. for some context, i’ve decided that the evolution smp takes place a few years before grian joins hermitcraft, rather than having them overlap like in reality. at that point, the only hermitcrafter grian knew was mumbo.

grian was taken by watchers during the evolution smp but it wasn’t voluntary. they took his physical eyes and gave him watcher eyes, but he escaped before he could be completely transformed. so he does have some watcher abilities; he’s sustained by the universe (doesn’t need to eat food but choses to do so to fit in) and he can sort of peek into other worlds, but he can’t enter the aether. he was given his watcher name, xelqua, but it didn’t actually replace his username.

grian sees using his watcher eyes, but he didn’t like the idea of having empty sockets so he had mumbo make him cybernetic replacements (without telling him what happened of course). after it happened he just showed up on mumbo’s doorstep with empty bleeding eye sockets like “hey can u make me some new eyes lmao.” the cybernetics were made specifically to look organic but sometimes they don’t agree with grian and he bleeds purple from them.

grian hates what he almost became and keeps his watcher abilities and cybernetic eyes a secret. the other evolution smp members don’t know what happened after grian was taken, because he’s keeping quiet about it.

martyn, a listener, was taken by watchers after their failed attempt with grian, as the watcher’s second choice from evo. he lost one eye before he escaped, and he has little memory of the encounter and no watcher abilities. he’s also got scars where the watcher clawed him as he pulled free and tore his ear. he isn’t sure how he lost his eye, just that it was very traumatic, so he’s keeping quiet about it.

the watchers spoke to martyn again after last life but his memory is fuzzy and he’s keeping quiet about it.

grian knows martyn encountered the watchers but is keeping quiet about it.

bonus: scott is also a listener, but he’s always defied the watchers’ will so they have no interest in trying to recruit him. he suspects that grian’s involved with the watchers and that martyn is a listener, but is keeping quiet about it.

can these idiots just talk to each other please they could have a real bonding moment about it.
