Why is it essential in our society that women take the last name of their husband-to be? We start of having our father's last name, like he owns us for giving our mother his sperm. Then as soon as we get married, some of us hyphenate our fathers last name and our husbands last name but usually we just switch to our fathers last name. Is it so bad that I don't want to be "owned" in the eyes of society. I want to be my own person, with my own last name. I am not owned by anybody, not my father or my new spouse. In homosexual relationships should we take the last name of the masculine person. I think not. There should be an option to either pick whatever last name suits you depending on your prefrence. I will never be owned by a person or society.
