hc about cedric & his puff fam ლ(⌒ ⌒ლ)
we are all very much aware that loyalty is one of the most valued traits in the hufflepuff house. ( that is not to say all hufflepuffs are loyal-- take for instance zacharias smith, who ditched the battle of hogwarts but might have been an exceptionally hardworking student, highlighting another trait from his house-- but that’s a totally different subject. ) cedric is very much loyal to those he cares deeply about.
what’s interesting about my portrayal of cedric, i think, his is ability to care for a lot of people. ( everyone, really. ) he cares, let’s say, about draco malfoy, who sometimes seems a little bit too sad behind his eyes even when he’s wearing a smug grin on his lips. but his level of caring and his level of loyalty go much deeper to those he’s shared a house with for the last six years of his life.
these people are the ones he’s spent the most time around-- the ones who have become his FAMILY. they stick together. cedric feels at home around them, even before he knows who they are. he makes a point to speak to each new hufflepuff he can, wanting to make them feel welcome and safe the way that he does ( although the common room does quite a good job of making them feel cozy enough on its own ).
as far as the hufflepuffs he’s become particularly close with ( when it comes to my cedric, that’s hannah, ernie, zacharias, and hufflehearted, for sure-- ) it’s no longer a normal friendship for him. he’s very observant, and these are the people he watches most closely, because he loves them. they’re his brothers and sisters, and he would do anything he could to keep them safe and happy. they are also the people he’s the most mean to, much like a real family.
