“Minimalism”

Sometimes you don’t need to go completely overboard for fashion.

I love bling and colours just as much as the average equestrian, however I must admit I am being sucked into a vortex of simplistic, yet elegant equine outfits at the moment. Here is a short guide on how to adapt the minimalistic style to your equine wardrobe!

Quality over Quantity.

As simplistic as it is, that’s the rule you will need to follow if you decide to join the minimalistic trend. You will need to change your mindset from big, beautiful, croc leather dressage bridles encrusted with swarovski crystals, to a simple flat band snaffle bridle with a beautifully elegant yet simple custom browband. Yes, it is tough to change, but as you can see, the final result makes it worth it in the long run.

Goodbye bling?

Not entirely, because who could let go of bling all together?! However in lesser quantity. Instead of blinding judges and instagram followers with bling everywhere, just ‘lick’ a nice simple helmet, like the Samshield “Shadow Matte” for instance with a small amount of swarovski detailing, or perhaps encrust a few crystals into the top of your plain black leather tall boots.

However if you were intentionally attempting to blind judges and instagram followers with bling with the purpose of covering up a dodgy plaiting job, or awful riding; please do carry on.

How much is too much?

When I speak of minimalism, I don’t mean cutting back entirely. A nice simple saddle pad, like the Hufglocken Olympia eurocut dressage pad with sheepskin , is perfect. single tone colours like black, grey, silver, white, navy, red; with a natural, black, or brown sheepskin numnah is ideal for this style. However, yes patterned saddle pads and rainbow tye-dye pads are out of the question.

Finish the look off with simple matching polo bandages, or boots, (A complete matching set of 4 is appealing) like the Hufglocken matte ostrich tendon boots for instance.

Keep the browband simple, if you want to include bling, just a touch suits the style fine, I personally had a custom one made with Cavallina Browbands.

Just like everything else, keep your stirrups simple yet elegant. Silver or black works perfectly for this!

Conclusion.

Just like every other trend, it is safe to assume minimalism in fashion will eventually die. So by all means do not feel pressured to throw out your mega bling browband and patent patterned colourful saddle pad to “Keep up with the Kardashians” so to speak. The sole purpose of this article is to act as guide to those who may want to adapt the style to their current wardrobes, or just those who want to improve their current simplistic yet elegant style.

I personally still go OTT (Over the top) with bling, patterns and colours, however I also have days that I prefer minimalism. In my opinion, the more versatility in your horses equine wardrobe the better.
