Stranger Cole "Crying Every Night"

A short history on a special little tune, i discovered again while diggin my crates yesterday:

Stranger Cole, also known as StrangeJah Cole (born Wilburn Theodore Cole, 1945)   is a Jamaican singer whose long recording career dates from the early days of ska in 1962 through to the 2000s. Around 1969 he recorded a tune called

Stranger Cole: These Eyes (Crying Every NIght) 7″ (Treasure Isle, 1969/1970)

A little later, "your ace from outer space”, U-Roy, scored a big hit with his deejay version called

U-Roy and Hopeton Lewis: Tom Drunk 7″ (Trojan, 1970) 

And in 1997, Reflection Eternal (aka Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek) sampled this for a hip hop classic that appeared on the Rawkus Compilation "Soundbombing" called
