“Honestly this murder could not have come at a worse time” said Hugo with a sigh. “Everyone is already on edge. Not to mention it’ll be Halloween soon, and that tends to bring out the crazy in everyone.” He was already bracing for Mischief Night to be insane this year. “And people keep looking at the police for answers when we don’t have any.” That was the most frustrating part.

Hugo was on his way back to the Blackstone compound, where he lived with his husband and wife. He’d just gotten off work and was still in his police uniform. As he passed by an alleyway, he heard a cry for help. His instinct to help people kicked in, and he headed down it, glancing around for any sign of trouble. Spotting someone, he said “Are you okay? What’s going on here?”

Hugo stepped in the cottage he shared with his husband and wife. Removing his shoes at the doorway, he called out “I’m home.” He knew his husband was in the house. His supernatural senses told him that. “Did you miss me?” he asked in a flirty voice. Hugo was usually reserved and serious, but he was much warmer and relaxed in the privacy of the Sorenson cottage. It was the only place he felt one hundred percent comfortable, surrounded by the two people he loved the most in the world.

“I feel like I haven’t seen you all week” said Hugo before planting a kiss on his wife’s forehead. “This case is killing me.” An obvious exaggeration, given that he was now conditionally immortal. Wrapping an arm around Delaney’s waist, he pulled her closer. “Did you do anything interesting today?” He needed something to take his mind off the currant troubles, and Delaney was usually good for cheering him up.

Hugo stared at the board from the case he was currently trying to solve. Then he rubbed his eyes. Glancing at his watch, he realized how late it was. Ever since the human had turned up dead the morning after the full moon, the Order had him and Trini working overtime to try and solve the case. Turning his attention from the board to his partner, he said “Even with werewolf stamina, I’m starting to fall asleep staring at this board.” The two of them had very little to go on right now, their only suspect being one of Hugo’s pack mates. “I need to get myself a coffee from the break room. Do you want one?” Break room coffee always had a bitter taste, but he would take anything to stay awake at this point.
