Hugo stepped in the cottage he shared with his husband and wife. Removing his shoes at the doorway, he called out “I’m home.” He knew his husband was in the house. His supernatural senses told him that. “Did you miss me?” he asked in a flirty voice. Hugo was usually reserved and serious, but he was much warmer and relaxed in the privacy of the Sorenson cottage. It was the only place he felt one hundred percent comfortable, surrounded by the two people he loved the most in the world.

Isabella stared blankly at her phone, watching as the blinking cursor mocked her as she tried to figure out what to tell Felix in this text. She figured that maybe Felix could help her somehow. There was something so calming about his usual demeanor (whatever happened during the supermoon had been a fluke, yet entertaining and fun at the same time). Perhaps if she told him about what had happened at the park and about Stefano that maybe he would know how to comfort her. Something told her that he would be perfect at knowing how to help her deal with this trauma. 

She had started a few texts but she had deleted them all. None of the words seemed to express her need for his help well enough. And maybe that was it. Maybe she couldn’t tell him over text. Maybe she needed to go to him and explain it to his face. That way he could understand just how much this was effecting her and, more importantly, that she needed help. 

That was what she was going to have to do. And it was exactly what she did. Funny, this was not how she imagined coming to see him after what had happened on his birthday. She thought she would show up much more confident and eager to amuse, especially since she was sure he would either be confused or embarrassed by his behavior (even though she had very much enjoyed that night). But instead, she was going over weak and vulnerable: the complete opposite of herself. He would be seeing a side of her that only one other had seen before Stefano had arrived in town.

Isabella tried to mask that face as she arrived at his doorstep, knocking on the door and waiting. She wanted to pretend that everything was okay and maybe find a distraction, but when the door opened, that facade was instantly lost. “Felix,” she muttered gently, stepping forward and embracing him quickly. So much for pretending everything was okay.
