A parade on Mexico's Independence Day (Mexico City).

In the early morning of September 16th, 1810, in the city of Dolores, the Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rang the bell of his church, and gave the call to arms that set off the Mexican War of Independence.  Known as the Grito de Dolores (Cry of Dolores), this is re-enacted each year on the eve of Independence Day.  At around 11pm on the balcony of the National Palace, the president rings the bell that Hidalgo used and recites a patriotic cry.

On the morning of the 16th, the national military parade begins in the Plaza del Zócalo, passing the Hidalgo Memorial and ending in the Paseo de la Reforma, the main boulevard of Mexico City. This is the largest of the parades held on this day.

The day of September 16th was first celebrated in Huichapan (Hidalgo) in 1812, and in 1825 it was celebrated nationally for the first time.
