Happy Pakistan Independence Day!!! (to all my Amreecan Pakistanis, bcoz time difference ya feel) but one thing that isn't different is all of us expatriates and first-gen American-Pakistanis' love for this strange, ordinary, beautiful, striking country that we either once called home, or have visited, whether by plane or by the stories our elders have passed on to us. honestly, yes,we have so many problems in Pakistan and as Pakistani Americans, but we also have SO much resilience and earnest devotion to our enriching our identity with whatever dreams and causes we’ve taken up. I used to be confused if I was Pakistani or American or something completely extraneous, but I'm learning that we all come from different places and will continue to go different places for the rest of Life. What matters is that we remember what originally brought us together, and how we'll use it to wield a better, more inclusive future. I'm not a super social busy bee (i'm more of a now desi me now they don't )but I love feeling united with my peeps, especially on days like this. It makes me see that we're all part of something bigger. Our differences don't divide us, they make us unique and unite us.
