Wanted to get this out for Halloween, because it’s a spooky AU. This AU will also be mostly ask based but I wanted to have fic for Halloween so this is it. Hope you enjoy!
Let’s pretend this isn’t late
(Warnings, head injury, fear, general spookiness)
Karl stared out at the dark forest before him. He fiddled with the straps on his backpack. He had been looking forward to visiting this forest, but it looked a lot creepier in person. He had done his research, he knew what the legends said where in these woods. You had your normal things, like Bigfoot and the fair folk. But you also had local stories about giant man eating creatures and axe murders hidden deeper in the woods.
Karl took a deep breath pushing down his anxiety. He was already here, no way was he going to back out now. He started down the well worn path keeping an eye out for anything that moved. It was chillier in the shade of the giant pines. Karl was glad he brought his hoodie. He smiled as he walked, it was actually peaceful on the trail. The birds where chirping and the squirrels chased each other around the trees.
He pulled out his camera and filmed some of the scenery. You see, the whole reason he was here was because it was a highly requested stop to go. He made YouTube videos about different cryptids. And shared his knowledge about them with others. He had a pretty popular channel, and loved his job. But sometimes he wished he picked a different one. He looked around nervously hearing a bush move. He didn’t normally go out into the field for this exact reason. It was scary.
“I couldn’t have picked playing video games or something, no I had to be a monster hunter.” He mumbled to himself.
Karl walked through the forest keeping to the trail. Nothing had happened. It was surprising, this place was supposed to be terrifying. He turned off the camera, he just needed to go deeper in. Monsters didn’t hang out around the nice part of the forest. He was enjoying himself too much looking at all the pretty trees, he hadn’t realized the birds had stopped making noise. Everything had stop making noise.

Sapnap grinned smelling a human getting closer. They where deep in the woods. He loved scarring the locals away from getting to close to Quackity’s territory. Last thing they both needed was a human seeing Quackity. He snuck soundless through the trees keeping his fire low. He didn’t what to be spotted, yet. He smirked waiting in the bushes for the human to pass. But, Sapnap froze at finally seeing the human. They wore a soft looking hoodie and a heavy backpack. His face though, was the most gorgeous thing Sapnap had ever seen. He would have thought the human one of the fae if he didn’t know better. And they had fluffy hair that Sapnap desperately wanted to touch.
He shook his head as the human walked away from his location. What was that? He couldn’t have a crush on a human? And so quickly? Yes they where good looking, but Sapnap hadn’t even seen them for more then a minute! He huffed and quietly continued to follow the human. They where definitely getting to close to Quackity territory. Sapnap would have normally scared a human away already but, he felt a little bad having to scare the human even more then they obviously where. By they way they kept mumbling and jumping at the wind.
Karl was definitely in over his head. The sun was setting and he couldn’t tell which way to go. He was still on a path, but one that was obviously less used and he could barely see it anymore. He turned around hearing a sudden noise in the bushes. “H-hello..?” Karl called out hoping it was a bunny. He yelped as he heard a hiss in reply. Yep, definitely not a bunny! Karl took off already scared, and that sent him running. But he was to startled to pay attention to where he was going.
Sapnap cursed under his breath. He wanted to scare the human back to the light part of the forest, not deeper in! He took off after the human. They where going to get themselves killed.
Karl was to panicked to think as he ran. He was breathing heavily pushing branches out of his way. He thought heard something behind him but didn’t dare look back. He had to get out of here! He wasn’t watching where he was running and tripped falling over and hitting his head on a rock. He cried out trying to get back up but fell over from being so dizzy. He looked up at the night sky as his vision turned burry and he blacked out.
“Oh no, no no no…” Sapnap mumbled seeing the human fall over and get hurt. He just wanted to scare them not hurt them…. Sapnap crept closer seeing if the human was really out. As he neared the human didn’t move. But thankfully Sapnap could see they where still breathing. He tilted his head now getting a close up look at the fluffy haired human.
“You are so beautiful…” Sapnap shook his head.
“No, you can’t watch people when they’re knocked out.” He mumbled to himself.
Deciding that the human wasn’t going to wake up, he carefully dragged them under a pine tree. Witch was very difficult with how much taller the human was. Sapnap was a very small fire sprit. Only a third of the human size. He managed though.
This was not a good place for a defenseless human to be. He could already hear the forest coming to life with creatures of the night.
Sapnap set on the ground next to the human. He couldn’t leave them here! He was the reason they got hurt. It definitely wasn’t because Sapnap wanted to see the pretty human more. He kept his fire warm to the human wouldn’t freeze. He couldn’t help but smile seeing how peaceful the human looked. He was used to humans screaming and running away. He turned away quickly blushing. He couldn’t stare at the human all night, he had a job to do. Anytime a creature came crawling out of the woods to see his human, he’d snarl and scare them away. The human stayed out of it all night. And Sapnap protected them all night.
Karl grumbled slowly waking up. He reached up to feel his head cringing at the pain he felt.
“W-what…?” He slurred sleepily.
His memories suddenly came back to him. He closed his eyes as he set up to quickly and became dizzy again. He looked around holding his head. He was still in the forest…alive. He looked down at himself to see if he still had all his limbs. He did. He was confused at how he was ok, but thankful. He slowly stood up looking around. This wasn’t where he fell, he had fallen under a different tree… how did he get here? He picked up his backpack noticing small burn marks on the ground. They reminded him of hand prints. As he looked closer to found a small trail of stones. They went in the direction of the exit of the forest…or he hoped it did. He started to follow the stone path.
It probably wasn’t a very smart idea to follow a strange stone trail in hunted woods. But he was also pretty sure he had a concussion. Karl started to recognize the trees as he found the original trail he had been on. The woods where alive again in the early morning, birds singing and no creatures chasing him. He ran seeing the exit. He cheered finally making it out of the woods. He look back curiously, he had no idea how he survived the night. But he was thankful. And he definitely had a lot to figure out about this place. If he came back more prepared, he was sure he could find something. Maybe even whatever made the stone path out.
Sapnap jumped as the human awoke. He ran and hid behind a tree. He was thankful the pretty human had waken up. He watched glad they had found the stones. He followed the human making sure they stayed on the right path. He had had the smaller, more kind creatures of the forest make a tail for the human to follow out. He smiled softly seeing them cheer as they got to the tree line. Sapnap stayed in the woods hidden watching. He would miss the pretty human, but it was better if they never came back. This wasn’t a place for humans. Oh! He had to tell Quackity about the pretty human! Satisfied the human was safe he ran back to the deepest part of the forest.
At one time in my tiny mer! au, a day after Bad meets the people that Sapnap fell in love with, he saws Karl falling into the sea and hit his head with a rock. So the only solution he founds is to grow and storage the human so they don't drown. :)
Fearplay when Karl wakes up and sees that he had been eaten without knowing that it was Bad :]
🧁 here's a cupcake! And have another because I forgot to give you one in my last ask- 🧁
Oh, thanks for the cupcakes :D have a cookie 🍪 in return.
Also for Karl, in the borrower Dream au, he's a human. You can see on the drawing where Sapnap and Dream are sleeping, there's a photo on the wall of Sapnap and Karl together :)
(( Karl sighed as he watched his friend depart. Shielding his eyes against the sun, he watched as Arma became little more than a black speck in the sky. The signs started 2 weeks ago- he noticed the bird's slight shivers as she perched on his head which escalated in disjointed movements and shaking much too soon. It was time for Karl to say goodbye to the little concrete bird.
Oh, she would make it back to the park but Karl was left to rediscover loneliness as he continued his search...))
