CONFESSION:

I'm convinced that if they swapped dwarves out for humans or elves in the Dwarf Commoner origin, it would be one of, if not the most popular origin stories. It's a classic underdog rags-to-riches story that works seamlessly with the rest of the game, and it's a shame that most people won't experience it because dwarves don't fall into the tired conventional beauty tropes that many people in the fandom apply to their human/elf characters. Not everyone needs to be skinny with a small nose.

CONFESSION: I have to wonder whether or not the writers could have come up with a more compelling human commoner origin if given enough time. I remember reading about why they didn't add one, specifically that the human commoners just didn't have the required resolve due to a comfortable lot in life, but I honestly don't think that's the case.
