Under the surface you swam, collecting fruits from the anchors of your island... small and round, they grow, the only consistent sustenance you've had for days.
You used to live in luxury, your ship running on the vapors of boiled seawater, while the minerals were collected and refined for your fanciest feasts. Now, every day is a test, a nightmare you can't wake from. You're alone, everyone else you can only pray is dead, or if they're alive, they'd be experiencing indescribable pain after what happened.
You're not sure what happened... you woke up, wandered out onto the upper deck to see something that made no sense... no gods surely wouldn't let something like that exist. A hand, attached to a tail... you saw fins below the water, your eyes clearly the only ones to spot what lay below.
The others jumped overboard with ropes and rescue buoys, you'd never seen them move so fast. Water splashed up onto the ship, drenching you and those who remained. The ship rocked hard, knocking you to your knees, and throwing the others off their feet... you watched as they all slid down, screaming as they fell overboard. You scrambled to look, checking if anyone could be saved... yet as you gazed down upon the waves, not even a scrap of clothing was there, just rocking waves and a damaged ship, slowly sinking. You didn't even hear it get hit...
Now you're not sure which is worse, what happened and how, now you're stranded with no way to call for help, and no hope that help will come... or the fact that every night, you relive that day, and before you open your eyes, hear its distorted calls for help, sounding nearly identical to your little sisters cries before she went overboard.
