I wanted to write out some humanstuck headcanons for my fic for the homestuck polyship swap, which you should all read (and then read my other fics, and then my future fics)- Wanted: Roommates, Romantic Attraction Non-Negotiable. It’s Aradia/Feferi/Eridan/Karkat/Sollux as roomies who fall in love, and upon re-reading I realized I didn’t mention a lot about how people look or where their families come from and stuff, so I wanted to jot some stuff down!
It’s long so I’m putting it under a read more.
Heights: Feferi is the tallest out of all of them, at 6′0″ even. Sollux is like 5′10″, Aradia is 5′6″, and Eridan is like 5′5″. Karkat is just barely shorter than Eridan, just the smallest amount, and he /hates/ it, because he feels like it makes it harder for him to pass and also he likes feeling like he has authority, and it’s hard when one of your girlfriends has to bend down half a foot to kiss you.
Body Type/Style (I honestly talked about style the most out of anything else in-fic wtf):
-Feferi has broad swimmer’s shoulders and wide hips, thick, muscular thighs, and a soft stomach. She’s got freckles on her shoulders from lots of time outside, and dark skin. Her family is Hawaiian and black. She wears a lot of jewelry and accessorizes and does bright, careful makeup. She’s super curvy and also pretty damn athletic- she’s a big girl in great shape. Her eyes are basically giant and she’s got this great pronounced regal nose. She’s got curly dark hair but some of the tips are bleached blonde. She used to have them dyed pink but she just let it fade out.
-Sollux is white, and has two piercings in one eyebrow and two in each earlobe but wears no other jewelry. He has literally no fashion sense at all. He’s tacky as hell and likes clashing colors. Half of what he owns doesn’t fit him properly because he didn’t get new clothes when he had his growth spurt. He’s tall and lanky and has pronounced collarbones and hipbones. Sometimes he forgets to eat because mental illness is a bitch. He’s got a lil overbite and glasses and a big goofy grin and twitchy fingers and dark brown hair. He’s got really long, skinny piano fingers that are sort of inexplicably graceful.
-Aradia’s features are mostly sort of small and round. She’s got a wide smile, long-ass eyelashes, and thighs like whoa. She’s got wide hips but not a lot in the way of boob. Also, buff arms from digging and lifting and climbing stuff. Aradia’s family background is Malaysian and Egyptian, but she and her sister were born in America and their mom grew up there. She’s got a nose piercing on the right side. She’s got a wide nose and naturally thick eyebrows and the only makeup she wears is dark red lipstick. Right now she’s got really long black hair with the front pieces dyed red but she kind of wants to chop it all off.
-Eridan’s got lighter brown hair with a chunk on top dyed purple. He doesn’t have anything pierced, but he wears rings and tasteful necklaces (no costume jewelry, obvviously). His family is mostly of Irish descent. He’s got super expensive taste in clothing, and is really meticulous about how he arranges and presents himself. He’s built like a triangle- wide shoulders, and a narrow waist and hips. He tapers on the way down. He’s got kind of square, short hands, and a soft jawline. He keeps himself cleanly shaven at all times, not even stubble.
-Karkat’s mom is Colombian and his dad is Middle Eastern. He’s been on T for around six months at the time of the fic. He’s short and stocky, and has been working really hard on building muscle and bulking up, so he’s got pretty great arms. His stomach is a little pudgy and he’s got round hips, but he could crush a man with his thighs. He hasn’t had any kind of transition surgery yet, so he still binds. He doesn’t care a lot about clothes and never has, he mostly just wears what he feels comfortable with. Oftentimes that means oversized things, because he feels like it helps him pass. He’s got shaggy dark hair that’s basically permanent bedhead, bags under his eyes from not sleeping enough, and these gentle broad hands. He’s always warm. He’s trying to grow a lil beard.
Orientation and Gender Identity:
-Feferi is a bisexual cis woman. She’s preferred women in the past and has more experience with them, but she does like dudes- especially the three she’s living with. Uses she/her pronouns.
-Sollux is a bisexual bigender amab person, because I’m hilarious and like to make jokes about twos. He uses he and they pronouns. He’s really equal about gender preference.
-Aradia is a pansexual woman-identified person with some nonbinary leanings that she just sort of acts upon without discussing. She’s afab. She uses she/her pronouns.
-Eridan is bi, and some sort of genderfluid, but mostly identifies as male even when he’s wearing a skirt. Only uses he/him pronouns.
-Karkat is a demisexual trans guy.
Families (from most cool with the poly situation to least):
-Karkat’s parents are Signless and Disciple and they are already also poly. They share a boyfriend/husband/partner thing, who is the Psiioniic (who is not Sollux’s dad in this au, because I didn’t want to do the whole ‘if our parents are dating and we’re dating who is flying the plane’ thing). He grew up in a really poly and LGBT friendly household. They’re thrilled.
-Sollux is adopted (by probably a humanized biclops). His parents are also Not Straight, though monogamous. They’re a little surprised at first but are totally cool with his romantic choices and invite his partners for dinner and then tell embarrassing stories about him.
-Aradia and Damara’s mom is Handmaid, who’s a single mother. She’s a little confused, but she’s happy if they’re happy. She might have some questions, but Damara’s girlfriend Porrim will come over and give her a powerpoint presentation on ethical non-monogamy without even being asked.
-Eridan’s da is Dualscar, a businessman who owns this massive trading company. His mom is Mindfang, but they got divorced ages ago (and yet still have sex sometimes which everyone regrets), and while he sees her on holidays and birthdays, his dad mostly raised him and he doesn’t really have a bond with her. Vriska and Aranea are his half-sisters- Mindfang remarried Summoner (who had Rufioh from a previous marriage and created Tavros with Mindfang.) She and Summoner do this weird thing where they love each other a lot but also cheat on each other a lot. It’s like a strange game of one-upmanship. Dualscar is a little weirded out by the whole thing at first, but Eridan is very stubborn and doesn’t idolize his da so much anymore, so he just kind of eventually admires the boy sticking to his guns and lets it go.
-Feferi is estranged from her mom in every way but legally- they don’t really talk. Their morals are too different. Condy doesn’t really care what she does as long as it looks good for the press. She won’t disown Feferi, despite their major differences, because she hasn’t really done anything- she’s athletic, she’s a good student, she’s not caught up in any scandals. It would be awful press to randomly disown her basically perfect daughter (who totally volunteers at aquariums). So Feferi gets money from her mom, but Meenah will absolutely be getting the company, which she’s fine with. She won’t tell Condy about her relationship change, just because they don’t really talk about that stuff. Meenah knows, and thinks it’s hilarious and also sort of baller (her baby sis is gettin’ some). Even if Condy found out, she couldn’t use it as an excuse to disown her, because she made this huge show out of how tolerant she is when Meenah came out as a lesbian, and she knows Feferi would totally turn it on her by faking tears to the cameras and talking about “look how tolerant she really is”. Condy actually admires that; Feferi got her brutal business sense. She just didn’t get her dark gray moral compass. All in all, Condy is a bitch, but she doesn’t really care what Feferi does with her romantic life- her biggest issue with it would be that Karkat’s parents have absolutely 100% picketed her unethical business practices.
