no body look at mE i'm so overwhelmed by art and feelings and ugh gross
It's chilly for early November. Winter seems to have hit Ohio hard and fast, but Kurt doesn't mind much. He's got a truly spectacular scarf collection to show off, after all.
Blaine looks exceptionally good in a peacoat too, buttoned up and nipped in to show off the slight dip of his waist. Kurt is certain that no Banana Republic model has ever looked as good as Blaine does. He probably gets his coats tailored too; it's not like he's hurting for money —
— which is the problem today, as Kurt checks his wallet one last time and tries to answer the door like he hasn't been waiting at the window for the past fifteen minutes.
"You're early," Kurt says breathlessly.
"I know." Blaine ducks his head before looking up, making Kurt's stomach swoop dangerously. "But I got a little excited. I haven't seen this movie in two months!" At Kurt's raised eyebrow, Blaine tilts his head. "And I haven't seen you in over a week."
Shutting the door carefully behind him, Kurt walks them over to his car. "It'll be my first time. You're gonna have to walk me through it."
Blaine laughs. "Don't be silly. Inception's much easier to watch than critics will have you believe." He leans close as Kurt buckles his seatbelt and grins. "Besides, I never said I watch for the plot."
As they walk up to the counter, Kurt pulls out his wallet. taking out a ten dollar bill.
"Kurt, no!" Blaine puts a hand on Kurt's arm. "I asked you to come with me, of course it's got to be my treat."
Kurt makes a noise — he really has to stop swooning whenever Blaine touches him, because Blaine touches him a lot — and shakes his head. "Nuh uh."
"Blaine," Kurt says firmly. "You bought me lunch twice. You drove all the way here from Westerville. Let me do this."
"You don't owe me anything," Blaine says, and his eyes grow wider.
"I know," Kurt says, and he fights the urge to look down. "We're friends. I want to."
Blaine bites his lip, and slowly lets go of Kurt's arm. "Okay."
It's a discount movie theatre and Kurt's relieved to be able to offer something to Blaine for once. Blaine just happens to pay, every single time, and Kurt tries to suppress the impulse to think of their little outings as dates. They're not — dating.
But even if they aren't, Kurt has standards. He's a gentleman.
"Besides," Kurt says, looping his arm through Blaine's offered elbow. "You promised I'd like this movie. It's as much for me as it is for you, you know."
Nodding, Blaine leads them to their seats. "Think of all the suits, Kurt, and oh my god, Tom Hardy..."
They have the entire theater to themselves, and they make good use of it. Which doesn't involve any — naughty friction — as much as the thought thrills and terrifies Kurt. Except...Blaine is a movie talker. He leans over to provide commentary so often that Kurt can barely follow what's going on because he's too busy trying to remember how to breathe.
Partway through the movie he gives up, concentrating on his popcorn and the feel of Blaine's shoulder brushing against his. He wonders if Inception would make a decent musical. Rachel would make an excellent Ariadne, and Blaine would be divine as Arthur — just the thought of him in a trim, well-fitted suit is enough to make Kurt blush.
"Shh," Blaine says, nudging him softly, and Kurt hopes he hadn't been thinking out loud. "This is the best part."
Onscreen, Earnes drawls, "You musn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling."
Blaine's eyes flutter shut, and a dopey smile crosses his face.
"Yeah," Blaine says, as Earnes pulls out a grenade launcher. "What can I say? It gets me every time."
Shrugging, Kurt turns back to the screen. He studies Tom Hardy's face, and the rest of him, too. "I guess, if you like them all — rugged and muscly."
"Hey, he wasn't always that buff!"
Kurt eyes him cautiously. "Do you like him better with muscles?"
"It's not a dealbreaker," Blaine says, grinning broadly as he glances back to Kurt.
Blaine reaches over the armrest to grab a handful of popcorn at the same time Kurt slides his hand in, and there's plenty of room for them both so it isn't awkward at all. And when Blaine's grin softens, eyes shining, Kurt thinks to hell with everything.
He can pretend it's a date if he wants.
