I chose to reblog the map titled “ A Birds Eye View” because I liked how she decided to focus and include the parts that she thought were the most important rather than making sure she covered every single little detail. Upper Bidwell Park is a fairly large area so to include every possible hiking trail or place to go would be fairly tedious. Because I have explored this area multiple times I would be able to look at this map and find my way around but I am not quite sure the same would apply to a person who has never been to this part of Chico before. Regardless, the map does a good job of scaling out the major locations and attractions in Upper Bidwell. I also enjoyed the use of color because a good amount of the maps drawn (including mine) was done with just pencil or a pen. The part where Bear Hole is drawn in is my favorite especially; not only because of the color and the way she drew it, but I got a kick out of how she drew in the rocks and labeled one of them “rocks” with an arrow pointing to it.

A Bird’s Eye View

 The map that I drew up for my chosen space has many things going on at once and I believe that everything I included in that drawing is important or at least good to know. I added individual trails that are there in upper Bidwell along with showing you where the bear hole is because it gives you a sense of what is around or near the space. I included parking areas for people’s vehicles so they know where to go and I included the beautiful pond that’s there as well. There’s also a golf course there so if you don’t want to go on a hike or to bear hole, you can go golf. (:

Here is the map of the open space outside of my room.  There are not many things to place on the map as it is mostly grass and a couple of trees.  As I was creating this map I did not think it was important to put any particular direction up.  East just happened to be up as a result of the rectangular shape of the space and the way I took the picture.  I left out the buildings that surround the space and the pool to west as I did not feel that this items were a part of the space.

Map of Upper Bidwell Valley

This is a map of the spot in Upper Bidwell where my space is located. One thing that is helpful in reading this map is realizing that the canyon with the creek flowing through it is the lowest point of elevation. Both the orange and yellow lines represent ridges. From these ridges the landscape slopes down to form a valley of sorts. My space is located at the top of the yellow ridge on the edge of the cliff. When looking down into the valley you can see the trees that are on the near side of the creek. Then the canyon i the next thing you notice, and slightly after that a long windy gravel road that can be seen just to the left of the creek. Lastly you see the opposite slope of the valley spattered with trees, that forms a ridge of at about the same height as the ridge that my space is on. Hopefully this gives you a better idea of the space surrounding my spot.

View from above

This is a photo of the floor plan of my apartment room at University Village. This map is a bird eyes view of my room and shows what my room looked like when I first moved in. It only contained a bed, desk, and drawers for clothes. This map also shows where the exits are in my room, the main one being the door at the bottom of the photo which leads outside. I enjoy this space because its pretty large and I'm able to live like I did back home with my own room.

This is a drawing of my dorm room. It is in a rectangle shape and everything is just pushed against the walls so we have a big floor space. Everything is set up in a really simple matter. This is the way it was when my roommate and I moved in; we tried to move around furniture to make the room more interesting but everything we tried just did not work. The room is so small and rectangular, there is only so much you can do with it. The room is designed to just be able to live in, it is not really that pleasant to hang out in.

Bird’s Eye

The photo I am using for my space is the exact one that is shown on the CSU Chico website which is a floor plan of the dorm rooms in University Village. The specific area is an exact floor plan of what my “space” consists of. When I was appointed my dorm room I wasn’t very happy with the isolation from people because I am a very social person and I thought I would have gone nuts if I didn’t speak to anyone all day. But as the weeks are going by I have come to love my space. It is fairly big for a one person bedroom and as I stated before I do not own much items so  even as of right now my room looks almost identical to this floor plan which is just a bed, desk, and drawer. The only factors that I do not like are that I do have boundaries within my own dorm because I share a kitchen with five other students and a restroom with two.

Map of Stairwell/ Fire Tower

This map of the Whitney Hall stairwell/ fire tower is fairly easy to navigate. There’s really only two directions a person can walk in this space, up or down, depending on what floor the person is trying to reach. In this space, up is the direction of walking to the next floor above where a person is standing until they reach the ninth floor and cannot walk up any higher. In contrast, a person would then have to walk downwards if they are trying to reach the floors below them until they reach their destination as well. This space is very confined so I drew it boxed in from the bottom floor to the very top. The only ways to get out are the doors I drew located on the left that appear every two flights of stairs, except for the bottom floor that appears after the first flight.
