These Lumps of Coal Treats are a playful and delicious twist on traditional rice crispy treats. Perfect for themed parties or as a humorous gift, these treats are simple to make and fun to customize!
Ingredients: 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter. 1 package 10 oz mini marshmallows. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. 1/4 teaspoon salt. 5 cups crispy rice cereal. 1/4 cup black cocoa powder. 1 cup black candy melts. Edible white food coloring marker.
Instructions: In a large microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and mini marshmallows together in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until smooth and fully combined. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Add the crispy rice cereal to the marshmallow mixture and gently fold until well coated. Divide the mixture in half. Add the black cocoa powder to one half and mix until evenly colored. Using your hands, shape portions of the cocoa-flavored mixture into coal-like lumps and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. You can create various sizes and shapes for a realistic look. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the black candy melts according to the package instructions. Dip the back side of each cocoa-flavored lump into the melted candy to create a glossy appearance, then return them to the baking sheet. While the candy coating is still wet, use an edible white food coloring marker to add details like cracks or writing to resemble coal pieces. Allow the lumps of coal treats to set at room temperature or in the refrigerator until the candy coating is firm. Once set, your lumps of coal treats are ready to be enjoyed or shared! Store in an airtight container to keep them fresh.
