Today, I am fasting in solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners who have themselves been fasting.
*Please invite friends and comrades and share... Help this go viral in order to raise awareness!* http://weareallhanashalabi.wordpress.com/ This Tuesday 17th April is Palestinian Prisoners Day. The solidarity network We Are All Hana Shalabi are calling for a co-ordinat...ed fast everywhere from 7am to 7pm in solidarity with all Palestinian prisoners, and specifically those currently on hunger strike. Ta'ir Halale and Bilal Diyab will be entering the 50th day of their open-ended hunger strikes in protest to the violent and degrading treatment meted out by Israeli forces during the process of their arrests and administrative detention. (http://weareallhanashalabi.wordpress.com/palestinian-prisoners-on-hunger-strike/) Administrative detention procedures allows the Israeli military to hold Palestinians on secret evidence without charging them or allowing them to stand trial. Military law empowers military commanders to detain Palestinians for up to six month renewable periods for any security concern. Over the past few months, Palestinian prisoners have been escalating their resistance to their captivity, led by the courageous hunger strikes of Khader Adnan and Hana Shalabi. A further coordinated prisoner hunger strike has been called to begin this Tuesday 17th, demanding: 1. An end to the policy of solitary confinement and isolation which has been used to deprive Palestinian prisoners of their rights for more than a decade. 2. To allow the families of prisoners from the Gaza Strip to visit prisoners. This right has been denied to all families for more than 6 years. 3. An improvement in the living conditions of prisoners and an end to the 'Shalit' law, which outlaws newspapers, learning materials and many TV channels. 4. An end to the the policies of humiliation which are suffered by prisoners and their families such as strip searches, nightly raids, and collective punishment. As international solidarity activists we must in turn escalate our actions in solidarity with the prisoners and that begins this Tuesday. Rallies will be held in Scotland to end the fast and similar actions will be taking place worldwide. In the days leading up to the fast we will be using the hashtag #HungryForJustice to spread the word on twitter and other social media forums. We will be updating this page with events taking place for Prisoners Day so contact [email protected] with any details. For more information, visit: http://www.addameer.org/index.php
