Even more of this new Paladins story thing...
I had quite a bit of it typed up already, and despite being SO stressed and busy I really wanted to finish this.
I have more that I can do if people would like, but I wanted to at least get this section out there.
"So, while we're waiting for the princess what else can you tell us bout this planet?" Mal shifted in one of the small chairs inside Bexxa's dwelling. She had kindly invited them to wait for the princess' arrival in a bit more comfort. Although her home was small, it was certainly cozy as they all squeezed into a room that doubled as living room and bedrooms. "Uh... well what do you want to know?" With a smile Bexxa finally stopped flitting around the room attending to all her guests to relax herself, taking off her vest with coat tails. "I don't know how much will actually be useful to you." "What is THAT?" Waffle comments, squeaking on the small plastic ottoman that has been blown up for her. "What?" Becca freezes, looking concerned and affronted.
"Wow..." a hushed silence came over the team as they took in the wonder of what they were seeing. "You have such beautiful tail feathers." Mal commented, a soft look growing on her face. "Do all of your people have feathers like this?" "Well, not EXACTLY like this..." Bexxa mumbled, fidgeting with the clothing still in her hands. "I mean, everyone has tail feathers but they're all unique, so no one has the same feathers. And, uh, usually they're not maintained to be quite this long." The feathers were long and broad, reaching the tops of her thighs, the same light sandy color as the rest of her feathers, but with distinct bands of brown and a thick tip of white. When they fanned out, they formed a practically perfect arch. "Usually, people will clip them down or remove them because they get in the way and they're really more of a luxury... but it's important to me, since it's the only way I can really express myself anymore." Bexxa offered a withering smile. "They are lovely." The black Paladin reassured her. For someone who looked every bit a rebel on an all but abandoned planet, to see such a small glimmer of beauty was both startling and exciting. "What about wings?" The yellow Paladin asked. "Your people seem really close to avian species on earth, and they have wings, so..." "Uh, well that answer is complicated." Their host sat down slowly on a chair with an open area at the seat so her feathers could hang on the other side. "You see, our species used to occupy tree space and glide through the air in the early years, but a long time ago we were able to move to the ground, which was wonderful! It made advancing technology and civilization much faster and urban areas began to spring up in clearings. But, because there was no need to fly anymore, we slowly evolved without wings. You must consider however, that wings were terribly inconvenient when no longer needed! So, while full fledged wings are a thing of a distant past, I do... have very small wings." "How fascinating." Syeriane commented. She tried to imagine what these people might have looked like with full sized wings.
"What do they look like?" The blue Paladin asked. "Your wings..." "O-oh... they're uh... on my back. And, well... feathered!" Bexxa wrung her hands together, trying to be polite. "You know, of course they're feathered. But um, well there's no way to..." "I don't think she wants to strip for us." Waffle commented. "Well that is... one way to put it." Bexxa nodded. "Tactless, and yet somehow comprehensive." "I'm sorry if we've offended you!" The black Paladin chimed in. "No! Oh no, really it's fine." Their new friend smiled warmly. "There was no way it could have been know that... and, well, at any rate I'm very flattered you all are so interested in my story. I wish it could be of some help to you in defeating the Galra, but even if it's just entertaining you in the meantime, I'm happy." "If we're going to be allies we might as well know a little about you." With a kind smile, the yellow Paladin responded. "And hearing about your planet gives us a better idea what we're up against." The red Paladin commented. "It's good to know what we're fighting to restore." "You've already proven yourself invaluable to us with your maps and notes," Jas said, "so just listening to you is the least we could do." "... But it is pretty entertaining." Waffle smiled. ~~
