Once you open the Pandora's box that is Hunlak and kids........you can't close it

If Hunlak had any angst it would be something like “Lovers Eyes” by mumford and sons 

as it is, Hunlak doesn’t have much angst.

Do hunlak take care of each other through out the season? Who us better at taking care of the other? Is hunwick taking Cate of Roman while his leg heals or is he fretting? Love your little mini fics on them! :)

Roman doesn’t like being taken care of and Matt can respect that. when they are home Matt isn’t fretting. but when it happened Matt was super worried. He was off to talk to the official as soon as the whistle blew to try and make sure a penalty was going to be called (surly they could call SOMETHING on that play.....they couldn’t) when that ended he was right by Roman’s side. he didn’t really know what to do because he’s never seen Roman look like he is in pain. Like the game against Columbus when Roman got hurt he was in pain and Matt could tell but Roman didn’t look like he was in pain you know? So Matt is there and he helps Roman off the ice even though Roman is like three inches taller 35 lbs heavier and Brian Boyle is RIGHT THERE. Matt knows he should let Brian help Roman but that’s his husband and if Roman looks like he is in pain then it must be bad. 

So Matt doesn’t really take care of Roman. but he does things to make Roman’s life easier. like they share house chores really easy it was just one of those things that when they moved in togeather it just clicked. but now Matt takes on most of the house chores with out saying anything and he’ll make sure that Roman takes his medication or what ever but not in an over bearing way. Roman hates that he is inured enough to warrant being taken care of so Matt doesn’t take care of him, but he makes his life easier. 

When Matt get’s hurt though Roman does take care of him. Matt doesn’t like asking for things so he doesn’t ask Roman to take care of him but Roman just does and Matt likes it. I need to look more in to Matt’s injuries to see how they line but but Roman does take care of him. If their positions were reversed Roman wouldn’t let Matt get up for anything. Might even carry him around sometimes. 

It’s not that Matt is bad at taking care of Roman it’s that that’s not what Roman wants or needs and the thing about them is they respect each other so much and they care about each other and really respect each other’s boundaries so they aren’t going to do anything that would cross those. sometimes Matt would like to take care of Roman in a more tradition way but that’s not what Roman needs or wants. and more than that Matt wants to make Roman happy, Roman won’t be happy if Matt is hovering and dotting on him. 

outside of injuries though they take care of each other in different ways. they make sure the other is eating right, getting enough sleep. They encourage each other on bad days. They are a team you know? and they love each other so much that of course they take care of each other but that kinda looks different depending on what’s going on.

tell me more about hunlak.

lets talk about their house because it’s probably one of my favorite things about the whole thing. 

They live here...ish I don’t know if there is a sufficient yard but it has six bedrooms, five bathrooms and it’s a big family home. 

They buy the house when Matt signs with Toronto. They had been hoping that Matt could work something out with Toronto they had been house hunting and they know they KNOW not to count your chickens before they hatch but it’s been 10 or 11 years since they started dating and they are FINALLY maybe gonna be in the same place. so sue them, its come earlier than they ever expected. The day after Matt signs with the leafs is the day they officially have a house. 

it’s a really big house for two guys but not one really questions it. Matt had thought it was too much, not too big, but too flashy it lowkey looks like a castle but Roman loved it, and so Matt kinda fell in love with it a little too they are walking around the house their first night there and it’s kinda surreal, they are finally living togeather after like eleven years they are FINALLY living togeather. 

they spend the evening on the back porch and Matt can see a winter in the future where there is an ice rink in the yard and the kids are skating around and Matt knows right then that this is the house where they have their family, no matter what happens in their hockey career this is where they will have their family. 

but they don’t even get to spend a whole season in the house before Roman has to leave for San Jose. He’s telling Matt that he’s coming back, the Leafs said he’s coming back and it’s just hockey. they both know it, they both know they aren’t franchise players. They’ve talked about it, this is the house, this is where their family is going to be, no matter what. 

They know how to not live with each other. They did it for 10/11 years they figure it should be easy but it’s not. They know how to make the distance seem shorter, they skype and stuff as often as possible but, Matt, he’s not doing great. He’s in this big house, and yeah the house was too big for just the two of them but it’s their house. It’s their family’s house. and that’s the problem. Matt is living in a house for a family all on his own. 

he can’t spend a lot of time in the house. he’ll catch himself walking around running his hands over the walls and stuff. He thinks it’s kinda pitiful but he really misses Roman and he knows how to handle that but he doesn’t really know how to handle being alone in this house. 

They talk about it because they talk about everything and that helps. Roman is constantly sending Matt hoodies that smell like him and they work through the season and as soon as Matt can leave to Toronto he’s on a plane to San Jose 

When they are back in Toronto waiting for Roman to get signed they are settling back in to their home as a couple again but waiting for Toronto is hard they’re on edge and Roman  thinks about what it was like for Matt when he was here alone and he knows he’s not going to let Matt stay in this house alone again. He’ll buy Matt an apartment somewhere, it might not be a great apartment but he can’t leave Matt here again. Matt didn’t want to think about being here alone again. but he didn’t want to say it out loud. they didn’t want say out loud that the Leafs might back out, that Roman might not be able to make a deal with them. 

Roman did get signed and it’s like the whole house took a breath. when things got close to the trade deadline they do talk about it though. and Roman says that if he leaves again he wants to get Matt an apartment he doesn’t want Matt to say in this house alone. They’d keep the house of course they would it’s their house but Matt can’t stay here alone. Matt is super releved at this he wasn’t going to ask, he doesn’t like asking for things, but to hear Roman say it, that means it’s okay. 

eventually they do get to raise a family in the house, Matt gets to spend an evening on the deck out back watching his kids skate and Roman comes up behind him and hooks his chin over Roman’s shoulders and finally their house is a home for their family.
