Tent flap for the ask game!
Trapper or BJ (explain)
Truly you couldn’t have picked a better ask to send me feral.
BJ wins hands down, I’m sorry but Trapper. Didn’t. Leave. A. Note.
Hawkeye had been living blissfully in their little world of closeness and dynamic duo shenanigans and he didn’t even leave a note!!! It’s unforgivable to me. Trapper got so caught up in the excitement of returning to his life in the states that he basically forgot about Hawkeye. To Hawkeye they’re this unstoppable united force and it all gets wiped out in the blink of an eye with a third party “give him one of these from me” kiss. We often talk about Hawkeye playing house with people he’s in love with and it must have been crushing to be confronted with how low he ranked by comparison to Trapper’s ‘real’ family. But sweet BJ clearly can’t stomach the idea of truly being parted from Hawkeye. He keeps trying to outline specific ways they will maintain contact after the war and gets so upset by the implication that they’ll fade out of each other’s lives. Initially BJ doesn’t want to say goodbye because he doesn’t want this to be the end for them. But Hawkeye needs the closure so BJ puts Hawkeye’s needs first. I won’t even get into the amount of time and effort it must have taken to move all those rocks for the note. BJ not only leaves a note so large it can’t be missed, but one that irrevocably changes this place where they met into one giant love note.
But in general I enjoyed the show moving away from Hawkeye and Trapper’s combined skirt chasing to allow for BJ to instead tease/ sometimes judge Hawkeye’s ways of interacting with women. Rather than setting up competition between them, BJ acts like a caring friend/ partner in a way that builds more intimacy. Plus I feel like we got a lot more nuance and character building with BJ (as a father, husband, friend, surgeon etc.) that spanned well into interactions with the rest of the cast.
