A lot of people agree that Hunter and Rascal's relationship is meant to be a parallel to Hunter and Belos, and I do too, but I don't think that Rascal is meant to parallel Belos, I think he's supposed to parallel Hunter, with Hunter being Belos. Palismen aren't guardians to their witches, witches are guardians to their palismen.

Like Hunter, Rascal just wants to be useful to his guardian, and as of the ending to 'Eclipse Lake', Hunter is willing to use him to his own nefarious ends, just like Belos. Like Hunter, Rascal does try to lead his guardian towards healthy choices, but when they insist on doing the bad thing anyway, Rascal ultimately helps them to do the bad thing.

We're seeing Hunter take what he's learnt about parenting from Belos and applying it to Rascal. I do think he's more selfless in his caring for Rascal, just like he wants Belos to be towards himself, but the aspects of their relationship that Hunter sees as good are aspects he's repeating.

I do want to see them break the cycle of abuse, and I think that they're already more healthy than Belos and Hunter, but right now, I see them as more of a mirror to that relationship than a contrast.
