Jade had an armful of books, on a variety of subjects, cradled in her arms. “Blake! I managed to find these in some old totes, I thought you might like them,” Jade said with a grin. “It’s my personal collection, not the stuff we have in the shop.” She paused a bit, thinking.

 “You know this guy I’ve been seeing is borrowing a couple books too, between you two I’m gonna run out of things to read and sell.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Maybe she hadn’t meant the comment so seriously, but his answer pushed Laura to question Theo, brows knitting together in confusion. “Is there something wrong?”

      SHE GLANCED BACK TO HER NANNY, seeing the woman was chatting up with another.  Though eyes were not entirely off of her, Dawn knew she could be curious so long as she wasn’t out of sight.  Storm was with her, anyways, the black canine part of the PROBLEM, however.  He was digging in the ground, sending up a spray of dirt behind him while she had dropped down, poles to the side.  That was when she saw how far his paws were sending earth flying, so she reached out to ease him momentarily.  When her attention r e v e r t e d back to the strangers, she gave an apologetic smile.  “Sorry...  Stormy doesn’t normally dig, I didn’t realize he was hitting you!”

Last call at the bar is better than spending the night freezing his ass off on a thin mattress at the trailer park on the outskirts of town. Despite his weight, Job seems to be able to hold his liquor --- or rather, far more likely, he’s simply a good drunk; not too loud, not too touchy; not too different from his sober self, really, other than the thicker accent and slurred words. Both arms folded over the counter, his chin propped atop them as he watches some or another newscast on the small television fixed behind the bar without too great an interest, Job raises his hand as he watches the bartender pass by as though to catch his attention.

“Hey, hit me with another, huh? ‘til what time’re you guys open?”
