I think, for an interesting dynamic, it would be neat to romance Solas for a little bit, especially if she's a mage. A completely different perspective than what Solas is used so, so far removed from the Dalish and still Elvhen. Best buds with Sera, not because she necessarily because she believes what Sera does but because Sera reminds her of home. But the idea of Josephine falling for a stubborn city elf with pretend manners just makes my heart go boom so IGNORE ME IT KINDA JUST HAPPENED

idk, idk, I literally decided to do this like two minutes ago and now I’m frantically trying to put a character together.

My first instinct is to go rogue, but that might be cliche. I am also kind of thinking mage because CITY ELF MAGE APOSTATE.

I honestly have no idea if she’ll even be a girl, I just usually choose girl by default so I said girl. Also for some reason my first instinct was to romance Blackwall but idk why I don’t even really care for Blackwall. And then I thought Solas but he’s an ass. I might just start playing and see what feels right, but that probably means I’ll end up romancing Josie for the third time

ok so:

fallout 3 — it’s influenced my liking for history, especially during the 50’s era. it’s also influenced something a bit more personal, and it’s my relationship w/ my dad. we’ve always been close but idk i guess it strengthened our bond.

What are the top three most influential video games you've played? Bonus points if you give explanations.

random question, i like it! these are the most influential games I played, not necessarily my favorite:

1) Ocarina of Time: I played this when I was very young and probably logged upwards of 200 hours. I remember being too young to know how to beat the game, so I’d just run around and make up stories in my head for what Link was doing. After a few years, I became technically skilled enough to actually beat the game for myself, and I loved it, obviously. I did every little sidequest and read every bit of lore. I did the same thing with Donkey Kong 64.

2) Star Ocean 2: I was a bit older when I played this, and it was my introduction to long and involved RPGs, as well as plot-heavy games. I put quite a bit of hours into this game as well. I remember grinding levels for DAYS to try and kill Dias Flac during your first encounter with him, though I never was able to kill him. I played through the game as both Claude and Rena probably four times over. I had a hard time choosing between SO2 and FFVII, but I think SO2 was overall a bit more influential. Admittedly, I liked the plot of FFVII more.

3) DotA 2: There’s a huge gap in between my SO2 days and when I first start playing dota, mostly because the in-between years were spent playing random console games. I started off playing League, but my friend gave me a dota 2 beta key, and I moved on to it. This is about when I started getting really serious about playing on my PC and wanting to upgrade/optimize for performance. Dota can be a pretty difficult game, so as I honed my skills, I became a bit better at just about every other game I played. I didn’t used to like competitive games, but dota really changed that. I can handle competition now and actually enjoy it. PVP was never my thing until dota. It made me feel comfortable facing friends and strangers in games like Smash Bros or CSGO. It boosted my confidence in myself because people started noticing that I steadily improved and would comment on it. Also, while I do love single player games, multiplayer games will always have a special place in my heart (and can be a lot more fun/engaging).

Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3.No, I’m totally kidding, here, in no particular order;

Beyond Good And Evil: Because a) first game I’d played where the female lead WASN’T sexualized, and b) becasue it was such an interesting concept, I thought it was such a cool idea, exposing a corrupt government, the fact that not everything is what it seems, and honestly just a really beautiful game. I still fuckin play it, I literally kept my original Xbox for that purpose.

Psychonauts: Another reason I kept my original first gen Xbox was for this game, because it’s so cool, it was really different from any game I’d played so far and I loved it.

Mass Effect Series: I mean let’s be real, you saw this one coming. The ME series because I literally wanted to BE Shepard when I first played through the games. She’s a badass, she doesn’t take shit, and people listen to her because of it. (Or don’t, in the Council’s sense, but whatev, losers) And I’ve striven to be like her ever since honestly.

These are also my top three favorite games of all time, coincidentally.

I feel like I haven’t fully explained why they mean so much to me, in fact I know I haven’t, but they all do, and they’ve all had a part in influencing my life~

i didn't mean to go on so much so ive put it under a cut oops

the first would definitely be red dead redemption...the storyline just blew me away, i guess because it's so long it allows it to be intricately woven together...i must have played it through about 3 times before i felt like i understood every little bit fully. it was my first game playing as a proper anti-hero type character too (or at least one that wasn't 100% good if you get what i mean), so getting an ending that wasn't all sunshine and rainbows hit me like a truck (i cried but i think we all cried so ayee lmao). i know the ending gets a lot of hate but, to me, it fit...it was the ultimate message that if you do bad enough things you cant just walk away from them (if he'd not taken the bullets, he'd have just been risking his familys' safety until he was dead, so he realised he had to pay for what he'd done then and there...even if that didnt suck it was just how it had to work). At the time I was going through some shit too so i guess a lot of the messages in it just stuck with me. It felt reassuring being able to play as a character that was as gruff as i felt at the time haha.

Second would be ratchet and clank 3, it was my first shooter, and pretty much introduced me to the genre when all i'd played before had been crash bandicoot and gran turismo type games - im positive the amount of fun i had with that series really influenced my interest in trying shooters later on when before i just hadn't really thought about trying them. plus it was my first game to have relatable characters! i love crash bandicoot but theres not too much in the way of proper character development whereas we got back story and character development with Ratchet and clank so that was like woah! hey! plus it felt like a gentle introduction to shooters and fleshed out characters - i think if i'd started with some thing more serious after games like crash and spyro i mightn't have like the genre, but it was light hearted (well until gladiator) and easy to pick up quickly. ive always enjoyed going back and playing it.

third would be silent hill 2. i played it loooong after it was released, but theres so much to the story, i ended up reading up so much stuff about it online, the symbolism just really fascinated me to the point it influenced a lot of the art i was making at the time. i'd never really dabbled in the horror genre at all (even with movies to be honest) so it made me realise hey, i actually really like scary! like with red dead, at the time i played it i wasn't feeling too great either so it was sort of oddly comforting to not be playing a game that had upbeat characters when i was feeling the opposite. 

i was obsessed with the soundtrack too. i've loved a lot of soundtracks but personally the silent hill ones trump the rest of them.
