Permit Fishing - Wade fishing for Permit
If you can anchor your boat and get out and wade fish for permit when the fish are tailing there really is no better way to sneak up on these fish. Permit seem to able to feel the pressure the boat hull makes as it displaces the water around it. Boat noises too like scraping feet, rolling cans, sloshing ice in the cooler resonate through the the boat hull and into the water more than you would imagine. Foreign noises for permit, who are already a little uncomfortable being in water that just barely covers their head, are more likely to exit the flat than risk it when they hear an unfamiliar noise. Funny thing though, permit don't seem to be bothered much by feet crunching along the bottom of a hard sand or coral flat nor the noise of water sloshing made by legs and hips breaking the water at the surface - Go figure. Watch for sharks though - I have had a few big swirls blow up behind my in my mud trail while wading in waste deep water that certainly gave me pause for thought at to what the hell was I doing?
