“I don’t know who you are, but you better show yourself before I kick your ass all the way up to Atlas...”
It hadn’t been easy, but Edward had made his way from Mantle back to the small village to the east of Vale. The time between his last visit here and now was far too long and part of him felt guilty as hell for it. But... he was here.
As he passed through, many a familiar face greeted him, waves and ‘Wow! How long has it been?’ or some variant met him as he made his way to the graveyard where his mother was buried. He’d been friendly enough but wouldn’t linger with any one person. He had no intention of staying that long anyway. He just wanted to pay his respects... because who knew when he’d be able to do so again.
Setting the bouquet of wild flowers on the simple headstone, Ed knelt before the stone. “Hey Mom...” he smiled, somber. “Sorry it’s been so long. Traveling between the continents hasn’t exactly been easy... especially lately.” Pulling his scroll out, he opened it to display his license. “But you’d be proud of me, at least I hope ya would be...” he continued, showing the image to the stone as if he were actually showing it to her. “I’m an official huntsman now... doin’ what I can to help people.”
Closing the scroll, he put it back in his pocket... and wiped at his eyes. He hadn’t even realized he’d started crying. “Al’s doin’ okay too. He’s a huntsman too, but he decided to join up with the Atlas Military. I’d deck him one if he weren’t workin’ with the research and development guys. He even made my weapon so much better. He makes sure I don’t die out here. You’d be proud of him too Mom. I wish I coulda gotten him outta the lab to come with me... but Ironwood...”
Shaking his head, Ed decided he wasn’t going to walk down that road. “Anyway... we’re both trying to do our best to make this world better. We both miss ya too... a lot.” Taking his flesh hand, Ed placed it to his lips and then to the headstone. “Love ya Mom... Happy Mother’s Day.”
