My art history teacher was talking about a statue that had been damaged over time and no longer had its hand and forearm. Someone asked what date it lost its arm and he couldn't remember the exact date so he asked if the student teacher remembered the date off-hand. I gufawed loudly. The whole class turned to look and all I could say was "phhht. 'Off-hand'."
