Shippppppppppppp: Hondo - Jabba the Hutt

OK, disclaimer. I talk about Hondo all day with @allsystemsblue and most of this stuff we agree on and just feed into each other's madness. So, we talked about Hutts, is my point. ;D

I always felt like Hondo wouldn’t really like the Hutts. Teeth backed me up on this, but thinks Porla would be an exception. Pondering on it, it makes sense.

First off, as far as Hutts in general, Sriluur is in Hutt space. Sriluur is the home planet of Weequay and Hondo Ohnaka. The Hutts turned Weequay into slaves and vassals after conquering their planet. Hondo in particular was sold off into slavery by his parents to a Hutt named Porla. but he managed to make a name for himself in Porla's court.

Observing some shady business dealings, Hondo warned Porla he was essentially getting double-crossed. His advice was so good that Porla dubbed Hondo his advisor. Porla most likely took care of Hondo, as he was now an important asset. Knowing Hondo, he milked this relationship for all it was worth, but in turn provided Porla with invaluable inside information, which I assume doubled or tripled his profits.

Considering this, and something teeth mentioned that I really like, maybe Porla just ... turned his back when Hondo escaped and took his speeders and other vessels with him. He even took some of his men -- my thought is that in canon we never hear of Porla retaliating against Hondo as far as I am aware. He fucked off and became a pirate and rose to infamy during the Clone Wars, still using the Starhawk Speeders, among other things, that he stole from Porla.

Porla may have been the only Hutt Hondo would not mind, and only from personal experience. They may have been on somewhat cordial terms, or even considered to be yes, "friends."

All in all, I think he is happy to escape Hutt space. I don't think he would want to have anything to do with the Hutts, and should the need arise, I have no doubt he would go head-to-head with one if it meant being taken back into slavery or losing his home on Florrum or his gang.

Plus, Hondo Ohnaka has refined and very particular tastes. Jabba the Hutt would not do it for him. Besides, Hutts produce asexually. If anything, Jabba would keep Hondo on a chain like Leia and parade him around his palace to show off his hard-won prize ontop of trying to humiliate him. Hondo would probably take it like a champ and make the most out of a tough situation. He would not be held captivate for long. ;D

All the SWTOR levels being designed for viewing from the third-person camera makes it feel like the galaxy is really into monumental architecture during this period of history. Which is … plausible?

The Sith Empire wanting to project grandeur and intimidation through all its public buildings, from military bases and factories to stations and government offices, would be very on brand for them. The hutts need their doorways to be at least 3x3m rather than standard humanoid scale and engage in self-aggrandising nonsense like solid-gold statues. The Alderaani nobility have clearly been sliding into dysfunctional decadence for a while, given the mess they’ve made of their planet.

So, the Great Houses of Alderaan built monumental country estates and museums, the hutts built monumental casinos and palaces, the Sith Empire built monumental temples and state offices, but that still leaves questions about other parts of the Republic. The Jedi Temple on Tython is explicitly of Alderaani architectural design so … huge light airy spaces are in fashion?

It might say something about the Republic’s problems with prioritising and corruption, if you wanted to look at it that way. On Coruscant, the Senate Rotunda is flush with gilded decorations, but parts of the ecumenpolis’ basic infrastructure down in the Works are still on fire after the Sacking. The recolonisation of Taris is a white elephant, with a bonus additional risk that the rakghoul plague will escape the planet through the increased traffic. Corellia’s “morale-building” museum of industry that its government built at great expense in the middle of an economic depression, instead of using the funds for any of the thousands of more sensible projects you could engage in during a depression. All those Senators accepting bribes from the Sith Empire (and the Migrant Merchants Guild, and Czerka, and-) would be the kind to greenlight fancy buildings to frequent at the expense of more effectively equitable projects.

Kintan was a habitable world located in Hutt Space. Home of the Nikto species, Kintan’s varied environment led to the development of the distinct Nikto subspecies, as they adapted to extreme temperatures, sandstorms, rivers of magma, and worse. Kintan was controlled, like many other planets, by the Hutts.

Nar Shaddaa was the completely urbanized moon of Nal Hutta, in Hutt Space. A filth, decrepit place, Nar Shaddaa was infamous as a gathering place of the lowest scum in the galaxy, and indeed was. Many smugglers, bounty hunters, and others started their careers on the Smugglers’ Moon.

Hutt Space was an independent region of the galaxy under the control of the Hutt Cartel. Based on the ancestral conquests of their warlike past, in later days the region was composed subjugated planets owned by crime money. Due to their wealth and influence, most galactic governments left Hutt Space mostly alone.

Hutt Space was a autonomous region of the galaxy, controlled completely by the Hutt Clans. Stretching from the Mid Rim to Wild Space, the region was a holdover from ancient Hutt conquests. Its capital was Nal Hutta, although the Empire declared Teth the capital during their repeated attempts to encroach on the Hutts.

Nal Hutta, once known as Evocar, was the capital of Hutt Space and adopted homeworld of the Hutts after the environmental destruction of Varl. After years of pollution, Nal Hutta became a dangerous toxic swamp, habitable, but extremely unpleasant.
