They 100% should’ve made Kylo spend more time with Gardulla. That entire episode was so exemplary of Kylo’s entire ongoing struggle. Vanee informed Gardulla Kylo was coming which means Vanee had previous contact with her - Vanee who 1. tells Kylo about his grandad, just like Snoke did, and 2. is a head in a jar of yellow liquid, a clonelike, Snokelike creature. It’s no mystery why Gardulla wants to train Kylo as a slave. Because she knows he’d be good at it. Because Kylo served an abusive surrogate father who was also physically unsettling by humanoid standards for over a decade, and keeps trying to recreate the dynamic in others. The implication is that Gardulla used her prior knowledge of Kylo to correctly judge his enslavement as a good investment.
Which is such a delicious contrast to Leia and even Anakin’s hatred for and resistance to bondage. Unless we’re to assume there was some sorta audio-translator in that dungeon, (which is not suggested anywhere,) Kylo seems to understand Huttese. Which means Ben taught himself the language of his grandfather and mother’s enslaver(s) with no apparent prompting, unless Snoke told him to do it & he just obeyed. Kylo has socialized himself for bondage. He’s the supreme leader now and he’s still being passed between owners who explicitly see him as a small, easily manipulated tool. No wonder he’s so pissy.
