Roman, would stopping for water be safer in daylight? Or are werewolves and vampires likely to be out at all times?

"It is the middle of the day," Logan said. "Werewolves are nocturnal, so maybe..."

"Werewolves are mostly nocturnal," Roman stressed. "They aren't like vampires, they don't get weakened or burnt by the sun. If a pack lives there (and considering the WRP, one most certainly does), they probably have guards roaming around during the day."

"Zombies don't sleep at all," Logan argued.

"They also aren't territorial fuckers who are probably actively guarding their water source." There were all sorts of mythical creatures in the world and Roman was wary of all of them, but there were three factions that had the most conflict throughout history. Those were humans, werewolves, and vampires. Roman had his own history in the conflict between human and vampire populations, but just because he'd never met a werewolf, did not mean he hadn't heard stories.

The best members of their species only got violent when a human or other non-werewolf creature invaded their territory. The worst actively hunted humans (and vampires, not that Roman minded that).

There was a reason everyone had thought the first few zombie attacks were silver drunk werewolves. That's just how werewolves are.

"The hordes are getting so thick in town though," Logan pointed out and the dams are specifically designed so no one can steal water. Sure, the defenses that need power like electric fences are likely off, but the lack of maintenance may have made the structures even more dangerous."

"More dangerous than werewolves?" Roman asked.

Logan just looked at him contemplatively. "Werewolves can talk," he said. "Which means they can be reasoned with."

"No according to all of human history," Roman scoffed.

"All of human history we've been taught," Logan replied.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

Logan shrugged. "I don't know. Just... I've been reading the book The Curator gave me about mythical creatures. I think I'd rather take my chances with the werewolves."

"And I think that's a crazy thing to say."

Logan frowned at him. "Well, it's my turn to go on a supply run anyway. So, it's my decision."

What is it you think of werewolves, Roman? Obviously they aren’t safe.

But say you imagined a singular werewolf person, maybe one about your age? What do you think they’d be like?

"But werewolves are evil!" Roman insisted.

"They are obviously... different," Logan replied, "with different cultural norms, but evil is perhaps a strong word."

"No it is not!" Roman said. "They eat people!"

"How many instances of werewolves eating people have you actually heard about, Roman?" Logan asked with a frown.

Roman opened his mouth to tell him of the many different instances he could think of but Logan cut him off before he could.

"Real stories," he said. "Not just legends you've heard on the internet or ones in fictional television shows."

That was... a bit harder. "I can't think of one right now," Roman admitted, "but I can think of maulings and killings by werewolves. Like two summers ago when one ate that man's hand in a park in Rustenville. Or that string of deaths on the coast when I was a kid. They thought a wild animal had done it until the one survivor turned into a wolf during the full moon and killed three nurses before being shot!"

Thomas blared the horn at them making them both jump in surprise.

thomas, how are you doing currently ? does the approaching winter make you anxious ? (totally valid, if so) i hope you're doing the best you can within the current situation :3

also, i would like to sit gently on patton's shoulder with my fairy mite (that i'm naming frankie) and ask frankie to warm up a bit in attempts to help the child™ feel a lil bit better :D hopefully remind him that he's loved and cared for and not alone :33 (hopefully patton can feel frankie's warmth ? i do not remember if anything was established in relation to patton and the fairy mites-) -bunnie sprite

There was tension in the van, Thomas knew. Everyone was stressed out between not being able to stretch their legs and the fact that winter was quickly approaching.

Roman clearly had too much energy pent up, but was trying to smother it in order to not to provoke his companions more than they already were. It caused him to fiddle with things. He would move things around which irritated both Logan (who had a system for the supplies) and Patton (who had trouble dealing with any amount of change while stressed). He’d started to fiddle with different buttons on the van which was honestly annoying for Thomas too, though he didn’t put forth any protests.

Logan meanwhile was in ‘robot mode’ as Roman often called it. He spent most of his time studying the atlas and almost seemed to forget that the others were there. Roman had mostly taken over cooking them dinner as Logan was too engrossed in trying to figure out something to do for the winter. The coldness coming from him seemed to affect both Roman and Patton. Roman seemed to get angry at him, though he was biting his tongue for now, but Patton just seemed sad.

Patton had originally gotten irritable and then had gotten quiet, which was probably worse. Both Logan and Roman were too distracted to notice there was something wrong with him, but Thomas had. He tried to interact with Patton in whatever ways he could to make him smile, though he was still learning how to communicate properly in the physical world.

None of the kids seemed to appreciate him playing Christmas songs whenever he thought about the coming winter. He agreed it was probably in poor taste, but he couldn’t quite control it.

The worst was when they saw a half eaten deer on the side of the road and...

They didn't seem to appreciate that one.

Patton hadn’t been feeling good for the last few days. At this point, Patton was okay in the car most of the time, but anyone would hate being trapped in the back of a van for weeks, let alone him who still sometimes forgot that he was safe.

He’d started to get crabby a few days ago and had snapped at Roman for moving Barnaby even though he’d only been trying to make the bed and couldn’t have known Patton would react that way to it.

He’d immediately felt guilty about it, and that guilt had slowly slipped into anxiety. Roman was one of the only people who cared about him. He was the only person other than Logan who had wanted to keep him around. What if Patton was bad enough that he didn’t want to be around him anymore? That’s what happened with his aunt after all. There’d been something wrong with him so she’d sent him away to live at Ms. Morris’s.

Even Logan who he hadn’t snapped at was probably mad because Patton had been being irrational and Logan didn’t like irrational things. He’d created conflict when things were already so hard.

Patton had found himself getting quiet over the course of the last few days, that familiar feeling of strangulation in his throat every time he thought about speaking. He hadn’t uttered a word in 2 days.

So, how's the soup boys?

As The Curator checked on the soup and prepared some tea, Logan glanced around the... oddly decorated living room. The bookshelf in The Curator's apartment was a small one holding only 6 books, each being very different from the last. One appeared to be a romance novel, though it seemed to be written in French, which Logan wasn't able to read. However, it's cover art... got the point across. The next was a very old appearing book that did not have a discernable title on the binding and Logan would not dare touch for fear of it falling apart. The third was Dr. Picken's Guide to Mythical Creatures. It also looked older, but not nearly as fragile as the second book. The fourth was a copy of a fictional book titled The Last Unicorn. Next to it was a related book, what appeared to be a children's book on unicorns. The last book was a thicker book with a bright blue cover. It was titled Lies, Myths, and Truths about the Fae and How to Live with One.

He looked away from the bookshelf when The Curator came in with a tea tray and set it on the coffee table. She immediately went back into the kitchen and returned with bowls of soup for each of them and a plate of sliced bread.

"Go ahead and dig in," she said once all of the food was on the table. "It's made from fresh vegetables from my garden outside."

Perhaps it was a bad idea to eat food from a stranger, but the soup had already clearly been cooking before they arrived, they'd seen her assemble the bowls, and she didn't seem reluctant to eat her own food (and she seemed human enough), so Logan decided to trust it. Patton had already grabbed a slice of bread to eat before Logan even thought about cautioning him against it.

Logan and Roman ended up sitting side by side on the couch while The Curator took the green seat Patton wasn't currently on.

"Oh, this is very good soup," Roman said after taking a bite, and he was not just being polite. Logan would very much agree that the soup was good.

“Well that’s not alarming at all,” Logan said.

“Logan,” Roman snapped back.

“What?” Logan asked. “She’s being cyrtid about everything. We don’t know anything about her. I think I have a right to ask..”

 “Exactly!” Roman said. “We don’t know anything about her, so we shouldn’t be asking rude questions.”

“It’s alright,” The Curator waved them off. “He’s right. I don’t talk to other humans a lot and I tend to be a bit private besides. It’s no wonder you’re a bit distrustful. I really mean no harm though.”

Logan looked at her with pursed lips. “You are human?” he confirmed.

“I am,” she said. “With a few extras and most of my time is spent with things that aren’t. You don’t need to worry about them though, in fact, most of them seem fond of you.”

Maybe our boys could ask if there's anything dangerous in the area? - Moth Fairy

They chatted while they ate. Or, at least Roman chatted. Patton didn't speak of course, though he seemed happy enough. Logan was preoccupied staring at The Curator rather rudely to the point that Roman wanted to slap him upside the head. However, Roman was too aware of social cues to do that in polite company.

"So where did you boys come from?" she asked.

"We came from up north near the mountains," Roman answered. "We've mostly just been trying to keep moving and avoiding any places that look like there are more zombies... uh, that's what the government was calling them when we had a run in with them."

"Yes, I've heard that term from a couple of travelers who have stopped by," The Curator said.

"What about this area, have you seen many?"

"A few," she said.

"I'm surprised you've been able to keep this place up and running," Logan said. "It doesn't seem very defensible."

"It wouldn't seem that way, no," she said with a smile.

What do you think of the Curator, Patton?

Patton liked the museum lady.  She seemed very nice and kind of sparkled just a bit whenever she made a sharp turn. Her living room was also very nice. The furniture looked a little weird all together, but he liked each piece individually and the fabric was just the right type of soft. The soup was very good too. It might be because they’d been eating out of cans the past few months, but he didn’t think so. He just thought it was really good. The soup was full of vegetables and a bit of meat. The broth also sparkled a bit like the lady did under the light from the fish lamp.
