thomas, how are you doing currently ? does the approaching winter make you anxious ? (totally valid, if so) i hope you're doing the best you can within the current situation :3

also, i would like to sit gently on patton's shoulder with my fairy mite (that i'm naming frankie) and ask frankie to warm up a bit in attempts to help the child™ feel a lil bit better :D hopefully remind him that he's loved and cared for and not alone :33 (hopefully patton can feel frankie's warmth ? i do not remember if anything was established in relation to patton and the fairy mites-) -bunnie sprite

There was tension in the van, Thomas knew. Everyone was stressed out between not being able to stretch their legs and the fact that winter was quickly approaching.

Roman clearly had too much energy pent up, but was trying to smother it in order to not to provoke his companions more than they already were. It caused him to fiddle with things. He would move things around which irritated both Logan (who had a system for the supplies) and Patton (who had trouble dealing with any amount of change while stressed). He’d started to fiddle with different buttons on the van which was honestly annoying for Thomas too, though he didn’t put forth any protests.

Logan meanwhile was in ‘robot mode’ as Roman often called it. He spent most of his time studying the atlas and almost seemed to forget that the others were there. Roman had mostly taken over cooking them dinner as Logan was too engrossed in trying to figure out something to do for the winter. The coldness coming from him seemed to affect both Roman and Patton. Roman seemed to get angry at him, though he was biting his tongue for now, but Patton just seemed sad.

Patton had originally gotten irritable and then had gotten quiet, which was probably worse. Both Logan and Roman were too distracted to notice there was something wrong with him, but Thomas had. He tried to interact with Patton in whatever ways he could to make him smile, though he was still learning how to communicate properly in the physical world.

None of the kids seemed to appreciate him playing Christmas songs whenever he thought about the coming winter. He agreed it was probably in poor taste, but he couldn’t quite control it.

The worst was when they saw a half eaten deer on the side of the road and...

They didn't seem to appreciate that one.

Patton hadn’t been feeling good for the last few days. At this point, Patton was okay in the car most of the time, but anyone would hate being trapped in the back of a van for weeks, let alone him who still sometimes forgot that he was safe.

He’d started to get crabby a few days ago and had snapped at Roman for moving Barnaby even though he’d only been trying to make the bed and couldn’t have known Patton would react that way to it.

He’d immediately felt guilty about it, and that guilt had slowly slipped into anxiety. Roman was one of the only people who cared about him. He was the only person other than Logan who had wanted to keep him around. What if Patton was bad enough that he didn’t want to be around him anymore? That’s what happened with his aunt after all. There’d been something wrong with him so she’d sent him away to live at Ms. Morris’s.

Even Logan who he hadn’t snapped at was probably mad because Patton had been being irrational and Logan didn’t like irrational things. He’d created conflict when things were already so hard.

Patton had found himself getting quiet over the course of the last few days, that familiar feeling of strangulation in his throat every time he thought about speaking. He hadn’t uttered a word in 2 days.

*I land on Patton’s head and pull on his hair*

Patton, tell Roman we need pasta. Like a lot of it. And also why can’t you go hunting for supplies?

Patton's face scrunched up as his hair was magically pulled. He can't exactly hear what Peach Nymph says, but he gets the gist.

"Roman, the fairies want pasta," Patton informed him.

"Oh, the fairies do, huh?" he asked skeptically.

"Yeah."

"Yeah, okay, Pat," Roman said.

Patton frowned. He probably should stop blaming the fairies for his missing socks.

"Can I go help?" Patton asked.

Logan and Roman looked at each other.

"Perhaps if the area is carefully cleared out and it's safe," Logan said, "but otherwise only one of us should go out."

"But I've never gone out for supplies."

"That's because you're too short to reach the high shelves," Roman said, reaching over to ruffle his hair. "You must be at least this tall," he raised his hand up to touch the roof of the van, "to go on supply trips alone during the apocalypse."

"Plus, I'll need your help organizing," Logan told him.

Patton sighed. "Okay," he agreed, "but if it's cool and safe, can we all go in?"

"Sure," Roman said. "If it's cool and safe."

I know Thomas is a ghost bus and doesn't need gas, but can he be damaged? With all the potholes and the previous fricking shooting and all. Is he okay? Is he tired? Thomas is best bus and I will lovingly pat the dash, even if he doesn't know. I'm heading up the Thomas appreciation club and you can't stop me. -midnightfairy

((Well, first of all, I'd less say Thomas is a ghost van and more that Thomas is haunting a van like a ghost might haunt a house. Like, while Thomas is tethered to the van, he is his own separate being and once he figures it out, he could separate himself from the van in time. If he did this, that old van would basically just fall apart at the seams. It is an old van. It should not work anymore. Which is why you fairies are able to just gut the entire engine to make a nightclub.

Thomas's ghostly energy is what is keeping it together. Much like in movies about ghosts, ghosts can manipulate the places that they haunt. So, like, a bunch of lights can come on even though the power was cut years ago. Sometimes, you tear apart something or clean something up only for it to return to it's state before. Ect, ect.

Thomas both kind of has a shield that extends a couple of inches from the outside of the van (see bullet deflection earlier) and can repair damage that happens to the van.

Thomas does not get tired from a lot of things he does with the van. Driving takes basically 0 energy for him because that's his function pretty much as a ghost. However, trying to do something not with the van, like making things hover that aren't part of the van or writing saps a lot of energy out of him. If the van were to be damaged, like if someone took a knife to the upholstery or somehow managed to get around the shield to pop a tire, fixing it would also take a bit of energy, but he could heal it.))

Thomas is unfortunately, even less likely to sense the fairies, so he cannot feel the pat. However, I'm sure he would appreciate it. :D

Ok everyone, what's your plan from here? Do you have a destination or a direction in mind? - (can I be Shadow Sprite?)

The children asked Thomas to travel South along the mountain range they’d left  Ben’redorȯ without really an destination in mind. They wanted to stick away from populated areas, but also were leery of wide open spaces like the highways they had been traveling on when caught by the OSM. This, of course, made their daily walks a bit more stressful as, while it was harder to see them in dense forests, it was harder for them to see what was coming as well. The roads also were a little rougher. Thomas tried his best to drive the van smoothly, but still a lot of the trip ended up bumpy.

“Ow!” Logan shouted as Thomas hit a particularly large bump. He’d been climbing into the back to cook lunch when Thomas had hit the bump and ended up going flying face first. It was probably a good thing that the van ran purely on Thomas because it probably would have broken the suspensions if it functioned at all like a normal vehicle.

“You alright?” Roman asked.

Logan gave a long aggravated hum that usually meant he was resisting cursing in front of Patton. “Thomas, is there any way you could drive smoother,” he groaned.

‘No. I literally can’t, Logan. This road is a bumpy mess.’ Thomas would have said. Instead, the song ‘Long Bumpy Road’ by Hosier started playing from the radio.

Logan just groaned again.

“I think that means, no, nerd,” Roman translated.

Roman, free him quickly and then get in the van! Make sure Patton and Logan can get in quick too! If you're near the van you'll be safe (also if you didn't see my reblog of my earlier ask I'm team Run Him Over)

Roman grabbed the key quickly, looking over his shoulder to make sure the lieutenant colonel was still distracted by Logan. He slipped the key very quickly into the lock and it gave a soft click as it was unlocked. Roman then stood back.

Benerdoro was silent as he got to his feet and finished off the bottle of water, tossing the plastic aside. Then, he opened the cell door and immediately lunged for Lieutenant Colonel Ryan‘s neck.

Now, Benerdoro wasn’t even close to being as tall as Lieutenant Colonel Ryan. In fact, he was more near Patton’s height, but he had a lot more weight on him than Patton. That combined with the element of surprise gave him a very distinct advantage, and they both went tumbling into the dirt. Roman was pretty sure the lieutenant colonel’s head slammed against the ground hard enough to give him a concussion.

This commotion, of course, was responded to quickly by the woman keeping watch on the top of the truck. She immediately started shooting at the two wresting figures on the ground seemingly without caring if she hit her own ally. Logan shoved Patton up against the side of the truck so they were not in line of sight, but still covered the younger boy’s body completely with his own for good measure.

Then, there was the sound of a roaring engine as the van started up and started moving towards them. The woman on the truck tried to shoot at the driver’s side window (not knowing there wasn’t a living driver to shoot), but the bullets ricocheted off of something a couple of inches from the window straight back at her. She made a pained yelp and stopped shooting, though Roman didn’t know if that was because she was confused about where to shoot or if she’d gotten hit bad enough that she couldn’t anymore. The two men who’d been fighting on the ground jumped away from each other at the risk of being ran over. Thomas swerved as they did and rammed the van into Lieutenant Colonel Ryan sending him flying a few feet.

Logan was already reaching up to tug on Roman’s arm before the body hit the ground. “Into the van!” he yelled. Thomas swung the doors open for them and they all went diving in, including Benerdoro who got into the passenger seat. Roman ended up in the drivers seat where Patton and Logan ended up in a pile in the backseat. The doors snapped shut behind them before more bullets had a chance to rain on them and, then the vehicle lurched as it started to speed away.

Okay, you know what? I'm joining in. Water Fairy. I'm pretty sure there's not many male pronouns among the fairies, so let's go with making him male. Is this a thinly veiled attempt at basically making Demyx from Kingdom Hearts a fairy? Yes. Yes it is. My fairy is Demyx. He'll go hang up by the water catchers to protect it and help as he can. He'll occasionally visit inside the van. Dance party boy. And let's take Ryan's eye badge thing, might come in handy. He picks IX, er, nine for the game.

Also, Logan, buddy. How ya doing? How're you feeling about Thomas after that, um, very forceful way to make the lieutenant shut up?

I assume you mean you want to live up by the water catchers? Peach Nymph already has the badge. I didn’t mention that it was the badge with the eye on it, but that’s the only one he had.)

Logan could hear shots being fired from outside, but there was no glass smashing and if he remembered what had happened a few moments ago correctly, the bullets probably weren’t even hitting the car. Though to be fair, what had just happened was a bit of a blur between the fighting and the shooting and the hit and run. Logan took a moment to process what had happened and then reached over Patton to pat the center console. “Thanks, Thomas.”

A voice from the front seat spoke up, “Who is Thomas?” he asked. Oh, right. They had a guest.

“A ghost,” Logan answered. “He’s driving the car.”

The glove compartment slammed up and down violently making Ben jump.

Logan dismissed the new presence for now and turned to look down at Patton. “You okay, Pat?” he asked.

Patton hesitated a bit, but then nodded. He probably wasn’t completely okay, but he was alright for now. Logan carefully rolled off of him. Barnaby suddenly was tossed from where he’d been laying on their makeshift bed into the boys lap and Patton hugged the stuffed animal immediately.

Hope Ben doesn't live too far away!-Spindle Brownie

It took a few days to get to where Benerdoro's mountain was. They got along fairly well during that time. Benerdoro and Logan talked a lot about different things. Logan didn't know more than the basics about Benerdoro's kind and Benerdoro did not come off of the mountain often enough to know much about the outside word. So, they ended up chatting quite a bit.

He and Patton got along fairly well even though Patton never was comfortable enough to speak in front of him. That was fairly normal for him however. He took a while to warm up to most people.

As for Roman. He mostly got light mocking which was very rude considering Roman saved him and all, but still, overall he was a pretty nice guy.

He'd sleep in the front passenger seat so Thomas could blow the air-conditioned at him full blast and Roman, Logan, and Patton would sleep in their bed in the back where it was warmer.

The town that had been at the base of his mountain was in ruins. They didn't even bother stopping for supplies and instead just drove carefully around the wreckage to the base of the mountain.

"Are you sure you don't want us to take you higher up the mountain?" Roman asked when Benerdoro instructed them to stop.

"And Car is to climb the mountain?" he asked skeptically. "No. I will climb faster without car or human."

"What if your mom...?"

He shrugged. "Still my mountain," he replied.

"Well," Logan said. "Thank you for the help."

"Thank you for the help," he returned. He slapped a hand gently to Roman's cheek. "Singéstu," he said.

"You still haven't told me what that means," Roman complained.

"Singéstu does not need to know."

Roman huffed, and the man said his goodbyes to Patton, Logan, and Thomas before getting out of the van.

He closed the door behind him and started to walk away, but before he got too far away, Patton rolled down the window to yell "Bye Ben’redorȯ!"

"You've got to be kidding me!" Roman said. Which caused the man in question to laugh loudly and wave at them before ascending into the trees.
