content: fluff, polyamory, first meeting w/ ei, established relationship w/ yae miko
author's note: hihi!! I've considered writing poly fics for a hot minute now and decided we ball lmao. I MUST BE THE CHANGE I WANT IN THE WORLD or something like that. Now many of you may not recognize the term metamour in the title. metamours are people in a polyamorous relationship that are dating the same person but aren't dating each other however they are aware of each other. communication is key of course. anyways, I hope you enjoy and probably expect more poly fics in the future! >:)

This felt like something very carefully teetering on the edge of life or death.
When you had first started dating Yae Miko you knew that it inevitably came with the tie to the Raiden Shogun. Who wasn't aware of how close the two women were? Not to mention she made it abundantly clear just how close they were, they too were dating. At first when she had told you that you thought she was shooting you down and as heartbroken as you would've been you were willing to accept the outcome. However, when she made a sly comment about always wanting a more accessible partner you had frozen in that moment.
From there everything felt like it moved at a million paces. Especially the day she asked you to be her partner officially.
"I discussed it with Ei and she said she was fine with the arrangment. Just that she would have to meet you eventually." As if that was all you needed to hear to get the clue. That morning became flooded with information as she explained she was polyamorous. You had always been under the impression that meant everyone would have to be involved with one another but when she told you that wasn't the case that led to even more information that your half awake brain was already struggling to process.
By the end of everything you'd come to understand two major things — you and the Raiden Shogun both dating Yae did not mean you had to date the Raiden Shogun and your life would not be at risk for also dating the Raiden Shogun's girlfriend. Yae found your anxiety surrounding that a bit too humorous for your liking but what should you have expected from the fox?
This was the first day you had heard the term metamour. Two people dating the same person but not involved with each other sexually or romantically, what you and Ei would be. You hadn't realized that was an option this whole time though maybe you should have imagined it at one point or another.
With everything laid out on the table in lengthy and teasing explanations you finally grew comfortable enough with the idea to follow through with it. After all, you did love Yae and if she was confident that Ei was okay with the idea then what did you have to lose? As a matter of fact you were the one that spent the most time with Yae. Not because Ei didn't want to but because well… she's the Raiden Shogun. It comes with its fair share of responsibilites, a lot of which require her utmost attention. There were days though that Yae decided to spend with Ei when she decided to let her puppet handle the deskwork for the day. She wanted to warm Ei up to the idea of meeting you officially which you respected and were honestly grateful for. You weren't sure how you would handle meeting the nation's leader on such a personal level, even if you knew you would have to eventually you never felt prepared.
Though with the day here you realized there was no right amount of preparation.
It had been a few months since you and Yae started dating and you were thankful that you took the leap to do so. Your relationship was fun, warm, its own fun dynamics that made it yours. Yae never spared a moment to tease you, especially when she noticed how flustered it always made you. She had grown accustomed to your need for physical touch when she was around: hugging, hand holding, leaning against her. Nothing was off limits, you just naturally searched for it and she grew to expect it. The nights spent together were better than you could've ever imagined. Some nights were simply spent holding each other and having soft conversations while others were spent with her worshipping you as if you were the very shrine she devoted herself to. You and Ei were equally aware of each other as Yae couldn't help but gush about one to the other in their own private moments. Today was the day you would finally meet though, not just a looming presence in the back of your minds.
You and Yae stood hand in hand as you climbed the stairs leading to Tenshukaku. She could feel your nerves in the way you practically clung to her arm and she couldn't hold in her chuckle, "Darling, relax. There's nothing for you to be worried about."
Her words probably should've soothed you, and they did to some degree, but the knowledge that your girlfriend's other girlfriend was the Raiden Shogun never failed to instill some level or anxiety in you. On the one hand she had the very powerful and infamous Raiden Shogun and then… there was you. A simple shop owner in Inazuma City that met her by sheer chance.
She always tried to tell you not to compare yourself to Ei all the time, that she loved both of you for your own reasons. It was hard to shut up that rather loud voice in your head though.
The guards stationed around the doors of the palace didn't ask questions when they saw the pink haired vixen beside you. They simply stepped to the side and allowed the two of you entry. The doors opened in a grand showcase that only made your stomach fall further towards your ass as the grand space greeted the both of you. Your grip on Yae's arm tightened slightly and she responded with a comforting hand on yours.
There was nothing to worry about, you were both on equal footing relationship wise. You were both involved with Yae, both metamours. Surely this wouldn't feel as threatening as you made it sound to yourself in your head. The sound of the large doors creaking shut behind you was enough to cause your heart to sink.
All you could see was the grand space before you, more empty than occupied yet grand in its own right. A large emblem emblazoned on the backmost wall with the symbol of Electro on a couple walls either side it. There was a small table set up for a desk where the Raiden Shogun sat, elegant yet intimidating as a leader should be. She seemed to be handling important work. You should've assumed even with the agreed upon time the Shogun's work is never done.
Yae cleared her throat to fill the empty space, catching the woman's attention, "Miko." She replied, lifting her head. Soon her eyes landed on you and you weren't sure if she was sizing you up or checking you out. You felt stupid for even considering the latter so safe to say you stuck with the inital assumption.
"So this is the little bird you always speak of." Ei said, not asking but simply observing.
She slowly rose from her kneeling position, her braid falling off her shoulder to cascade down her back as it usually would. You would be lying if you said you weren't entranced and the two women near you were well aware. Yae could feel how your grasp on her arm loosened and Ei could tell that almost reverent look in your eye from a mile away. Not just a follower looking at their great leader. Neither of them said a word but they did share a glance of acknowledgement before Ei approached the both of you.
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you." Her voice was quiet yet profound, it left this warmth spreading through your chest that you couldn't quite place.
"Likewise." You replied, a bit softer than you'd intended, "Well not that I don't know who you are but… but like actually meeting you as you as opposed to, y'know, seeing you as the Raiden Shogun. Not that I still don't respect you as the Raiden Shogun just…"
"A talkative bird, aren't you?" The statement made you falter as you looked up at her, fearing judgement for your anxious rambles but it seemed Ei loved a good tease as much as the kitsune beside you did. Perhaps that was one of the many reasons the two were so compatible.
A giggle from Yae broke the silence that fell over you all, you and Ei's attention honing on the shrine maiden, "And here I thought you would be standoff-ish Ei." she smirked, a playful gleam in her eye, "But it seems you enjoy this little birdie as much as I do." Yae sighed dramatically looking towards you with a pout, "And here I thought I could keep you all to myself."
"Yae!" You softly scolded, shoving her shoulder. The Raiden Shogun liking you that way? Please. There was absolutely no way, was there? The thought did fluster you a bit, evidenced by the flush forming over your cheeks. However what flustered you more was you look towards Ei expecting some sort of retort… except you were met with nothing. No words, you could barely hear her breathe. All you found was her eyes on you, the only thing giving away any form of trepidation was the swallow that followed when you met her gaze.
"So, does the Almighty Shogun approve?" Yae teased further, pressing in a way only she could with Ei.
The leader's eyes found Yae Miko's in a stern glare. Her teasing starting to hit a nerve but not enough that she would've corrected her. After a few seconds her eyes found yours again, before turning away, "We'll have to spend more time together to be sure." She said simply, walking back up towards the desk like table seemingly expecting the two of you to follow.
While you stood dazed Yae Miko was having entirely too much fun with this encounter. Mainly because it was going exactly the way she expected all along. She knew chances were if she was fond of you Ei would be too but she wanted to give you two the chance to explore that on your own. Perhaps you wouldn't remain metamours for much longer.
