UNLIKE MOST of the other members of his family, jordan wasn’t spiraling down a self-destructive path. in fact, his brothers would point out that he was the only normal one in the family, considering that he wasn’t the type to do drugs, smoke or even drink like he had a problem. jay had found healthier ways of dealing with emotions whenever he didn’t like what he was feeling; he primarily turned to his art. but there were times when he did find himself reaching for a bottle ( usually of wine — he didn’t like vodka or tequila or even beer ) just to calm his nerves or if he was truly upset and he found that not even art can help distract him. tonight was one of those nights. christmas parties were supposed to be happy and merry and joyful — yet he wasn’t feeling any of those things. watching his relatives and family friends all with their significant others caused his chest to tighten painfully. jay knew that relationships weren’t everything and that there was more to life than having a boyfriend or a girlfriend but it was... difficult not to feel a little bit sad about that, especially when one was in love with their best friend and it was clearly not reciprocated. ryan was at the party too but jay had found himself hiding from the other, needing some space to contemplate and maybe try to drink his sorrows away. which was why he found himself sitting out in the backyard, a nearly empty bottle of wine beside him. he was staring up at the sky, his eyes slightly teary due to both the alcohol he had consumed and the thoughts that were swirling around his head. so lost was he in thought that he didn’t even realize that the person he had been avoiding the whole night had found him until he heard his voice. hastily, he wiped his tears away and offered a weak smile. “oh hey dude.. sorry were you saying something?” he asked, hoping it wasn’t obvious that he’d been upset or slightly crying.
