The new Stockbridge Hwy 138 landscaping team is having an impact cleaning up the I-75 at Exit 228 area and we are not satisfied the bar will be raised higher. How you ask? With weekly grass cutting, street sweeping, multiple liter pickups each week, edging, wayfinding signs, streets lights, and more in a comprehensive plan to improve the area following the implementation of the Highway 138 Overlay District. The Hwy 138 Overlay District mandating upgraded building and zoning requirements including 10 ft multi use paths on all new construction, upgraded landscaping, and 50% brick construction on all commercial buildings. More importantly we need your help stopping the litter taking pride in our community. The revitalization of Hwy 138 also known as Lake Spivey Parkway Stockbridge is finally underway. A new hotel will join the new Fairfield Inn along the highway next to the CVS Pharmacy on a parcel in front of Kohl’s. The new Best Western Plus hotel will adhere to the Hwy 138 Overlay requirements including upgraded building standards mandating a brick, stone, or stucco exterior finish as well as a 10 foot walking path already in place along with upgraded landscaping requiring sod, trees, shrubs, and upgraded vegetation. Just across Lake Spivey Parkway a new Wendy’s is under construction with a late January opening date. Even more exciting is the Chick-Fila Dwarf House at 3649 Lake Spivey Parkway Stockbridge will be demolished for a new ground up Dwarf House that includes the new prototype building shared with Truett’s Grill. The demolition will begin soon.
The Wilensky Group has invested in a new speculative multi tenant building along Mt. Zion Pkwy. next to Kohl’s to attract quality full service restaurants. The new building will include two full service restaurant spaces and 2 retail spaces. The team also invested in painting their existing development on Lake Spivey Pkwy. including the At Home decor store and Brandsmart electronics and appliance store . The parking lots were repaved also.
Once the new Wendy’s opens the existing Raceway/old Wendy’s shared location, corner of Lake Spivey Parkway and Mt.Zion Parkway, will be demolished and a brand new Racetrac Petroleum convenience store will be constructed. All new commercial construction under the new Hwy 138 Overlay requires commercial buildings be at least 50% brick construction ensuring a quality aesthetic appearance. The city of Stockbridge is working on a lighting plan for the entire Hwy 138/Lake Spivey Pkwy. Corridor to improve visibility and safety making the area more inviting to travelers and residents alike. The area has also seen the addition of a Hibbett Sports store, Athlete’s Foot store, This Is It BBQ and Seafood, and a total revamped Walmart store even adding internet grocery pickup and delivery.
Finally the Kohl’s location will be downsized to add space for a new tenant possibly a Planet Fitness or an organic grocer, according to the ToNeTo blog.
