HXLT’s 2016 debut is still front and center on his SXSW run this year, showcasing the eclectic and experimental rapper’s many faces track by track. Post-punk minimalist sets the back for much of these songs, using synths and guitar lines to discover tender feels in industrial soundscapes.

2016 Review: G.O.O.D music signee HXLT is described as a post-punk vocalist, but that’s a limited view of HXLT’s genre-hopping sound, he’s actually best when he mixes styles. Singer/rapper Holt has a compelling voice and flexes his musical muscles on his debut self-titled album as HLXT. The sixteen tracks that make up the album are a mix of styles but singer Holt’s smooth vocals shine through on each.
