Gullstar and Riverlightning get into a heated argument that ends with Riverlightning lashing out and clawing Gullstar. Tawnyspot leaps to Gullstar's defense and ends up fighting Riverlightning, leaving all three cats injured.
Ivysnap and Partridgeholly find a kittypet who was abandoned by their twolegs by the thunderpath, sick and exhausted. They offer the kittypet a place to recover and they accept, claiming their name to be Hyacinthsmoke.

For a cat who grew up with the pampered life of a kittypet, it's indisputable that Hyacinthsmoke not only has found himself at home among Gullclan's ranks but also nothing short of an invaluable member. Cats remarks about his heritage don't get under his pelt, especially since they come mostly from outside of his clan. Gullclan is his home, so, what does it matter what other cats think? Hyacinthsmoke is a friend to cats from all walks of life in Gullclan, offering a shoulder to anyone who needs one to cry on and taking the time to talk to anycat who seems to need a moment to talk something through.
Truth be told, despite his best efforts, Hyacinthsmoke is hurt by his twolegs abandonment and isn't sure that pain will ever heal. He despises patroling near the thunderpath, and whatever trust he had in humans has been destroyed entirely – especially as he learns of more and more things that twolegs have done and do to his new clanmates and family. He's the first to comfort other abandoned kittypets, and despite everyone's assumptions based upon the collar he still wears, he'll be the first to leave an intruding twoleg with regrets about ever coming near him, and scars to remember that lesson.
