As you may have noticed in a recent post, I've started to give out little stickers (in the form of "#hybh ⭐️") to posts that follow the submission guide exactly - correct text size, formatting, and placement, as well as correct number, size, and quality of images.
Use this tag as your list of example posts! If you're not sure how something should look when it's submitted, scroll through the sticker tag and take a look at the Approved Examples and match your submission to those posts.
Today marks the 2 year anniversary of this blog! I had no idea how big hybh would get when I started it on a whim back in 2023.
I want to give a very big thank you to everyone who's submitted posts, followed along, or just enjoyed the blog. It could not exist without you.
An extra special shout out to @asmuchasidliketo for giving us weekly stats and doing so much legwork for keeping the spreadsheet up to date! I appreciate everything you do <3
Along with the regularly scheduled posts, I'll be reposting some of the older and more popular places from the history of this blog for the rest of the day, so keep a look out for that! (And if there's an old post you think especially deserved a re-do poll, please comment or dm me with a link to the original post!)
So thank you, everyone, for enjoying the blog, and here's to another year (and beyond)!
Thank you for your patience while waiting for me to get things in order behind the scenes. As of right now, the askbox is open again!
Please make sure you read the FAQ and check the spreadsheet before you submit a post. I'll reiterate the guidelines again here:
Submissions should have ONLY an image of the location, the name of the location, and the country of the location, in that order. For instance:
The Statue of Liberty, New York, USA
This is all the text that your submission should contain! Please do not add any extra comments, and don't write "Have you been to" (The Statue of Liberty) in your submission.
When a specific country isn't applicable (for example, "Any Lake"), please only add "Earth" to the end of the submission. Do not say "anywhere on Earth" or "any country on Earth."
Please arrange the submission so that the image(s) are first and the text comes second. This is a QOL thing - it's easier to vote and input places when you don't need to scroll.
Additionally, submissions with more than 3 images will always be sent back, and submissions with more than 2 are likely to be sent back. Because submissions have to go through the ask box, the images will always be arranged vertically, making for a very long post when there are more than 2 or 3 images.
If you'd like to include 3+ images, please make them into a collage and submit that as a single image! Examples can be found in the pinned post.
Submission must be places, not actions or conditions. For example, "playing an instrument at a concert" is an action, and "In florida, USA during a hurricane" is a condition. "At a concert" or "Florida, USA" without the additional action/condition would both be valid submissions.
Do not submit AI generated images. This blog is firmly anti-genAi. Even if I wasn't, ai images do not accurately represent the place and therefore do not follow the spirit of the blog.
For the foreseeable future, I will not be accepting anonymous submissions. These tend to fall to the bottom of the inbox and don't get added to the queue until everything else in the inbox has been added, so I've decided to stop allowing for anonymous submissions.
You are always encouraged to include alt text on your images! I strongly prefer that you use the alt text feature instead of writing out an image ID outside of the alt text, but that is the sole exception to the "Do not include extra text in your submission" rule. Here are some resources for writing alt text: [x] [x]
Starting 1/28/2026, posts that follow these guidelines exactly will be tagged with "#hybh ⭐️" and can be used as concrete examples for guidance.
Under the cut are examples of INCORRECT submissions and reasons why your post may have been sent back:
---
1. Submission text in the wrong spot
The Statue of Liberty, New York, USA
All submissions that place the text in the wrong location will be sent back for resubmission.
2. Submission is missing country name
The Statue of Liberty, New York
3. Submission has too many images (or low quality images)
4. Submission has too much text
Have you been to The Statue of Liberty?
5. Submission text is the wrong size
The Statue of Liberty, New York, USA
Please use the "Biggest" text style option for the vast majority of submissions! Most submissions that do not change the text size will be sent back.
6. The submission text is the wrong size
The top of The Statue of Liberty, Liberty Island, New York City, New York, USA
Note: including all of this information is perfectly fine! But if your submission text starts to get lengthy, please make the text size slightly smaller (use "bigger" instead of "biggest".)
A corrected version of this submission text would be:
The top of The Statue of Liberty, Liberty Island, New York City, New York, USA
7. Submission includes extra text
A Large Statue, anywhere on Earth
Submissions should use ONLY "Place name, Earth" if a specific country isn't applicable. Please don't add "anywhere"!
8. Submission contains incorrect capitalization
(I've run out of my image allowance for this post. Please imagine the same image as above placed here.)
THE STATUE OF LIBERTY, USA
When in doubt, capitalize every first letter. Do NOT put the entire submission text in all caps.
A few small things to note: If the text on your submission was *above* the image, like this
Location, Country
There is a 100% guarantee that I will be sending it back to you as per the submission guide.
💬 4 🔁 16 ❤️ 148 · Hey travelers! · Thank you for your patience while waiting for me to get things in order behind the scenes. As of right
I'm in the process of going through all the current submissions and sending back any that have the text in the wrong place - most of these are fairly recent, but you may see your submission from a few months prior get sent back.
Separately, there was one person whose submission I meant to add to the queue (it had a poll and everything!) and I accidentally returned it to sender. If you could send me a dm and resubmit the post exactly as you did the first time, I'll be sure to queue it as soon as I see it.
Due to the massive influx of submissions, including at least 100 anonymous submissions which take more time to complete, I will be closing the submission box in one week from today in order to give myself time to properly go through every submission and add them to the queue without the number of submissions increasing.
If there's a place you've been wanting to submit, the make sure you get it in before the night of Saturday, May 17th (around 6pm EST/10pm UTC)!
The submission box will remain closed from that point until the queue has less than 100 posts remaining or until I've emptied the submission box; whichever comes first.
Everyone please give massive massive thanks to @asmuchasidliketo for getting the spreadsheet up to date! If a place has been previously posted, it's now on there!! Obviously, not every submission has left the queue yet and therefore will not be on the spreadsheet. Still, please make sure you check the spreadsheet before you submit a post! This is the easiest way to make sure that we have as few duplicate submissions as possible.
As of today, you are highly encouraged to include alt text on images that you submit! While I unfortunately cannot enforce this since tumblr is very wonky and doesn't show me if there's alt text or not, I nonetheless would appreciate the increased accessibility!
If you've never written alt text before or aren't sure how to do it, here are a few guides and examples of how to do so. If you have additional resources for this, please let me know!
Thank you for waiting patiently while I sort through the inbox. As you may have seen in the stats post from this week, the askbox is finally empty! I'll be waiting until there's room for at least 300 posts in the queue before I open it back up again.
Under previous circumstances, that would mean waiting just around two weeks from today. However, due to some changes I've made to the queue schedule, the askbox will be re-opening this saturday, July 5th!
In order to make that happen, the queue will now post once every 57 minutes between 1pm UTC (9am EST) and 2am UTC (10pm EST) for a total of 14 times a day! I'll adjust that back to 9 (or even 6, as it used to be) times a day or leave it at 14 as needed.
Thanks for sticking around, and I'll see you all in my inbox on July 5th! Take a look at the submission guide and the spreadsheet of submitted places in the meantime. Happy travels!
