Dear Vector Prime - According to you, the Grimlock from Robots in Disguise 2015 was formerly one of Shockwave's experiments named Clobber, but according to Rescue Bots Academy, he used to be a Cube player named Steelwall. What gives?
Dear Contradiction Codifier,
As I mentioned, I was relying on my brother Micronus's report of the events, and it does seem he missed out a good deal of information.
He was still accurate in the broad sense, Grimlock had been called "Clobber" when first created, earned the name Grimlock from his fellow neo-Dinobots when he escaped Shockwave's clutches, and was eventually arrested in Iacon after an incident with some former-Vehicons.
But between this, there was a rather impressive lacuna. Grimlock had travelled through several of the gradually rebuilt settlements on Cybertron, exploring and discovering who he wanted to be. After taking a Cube to the head while intruding on a sports match, it was discovered he had a talent for the game. The Hydrohex Hammerers recruited him then and there, although they felt his given name of Grimlock was a bit boastful, and suggested he use a nom-de-sport. Because of his defensive prowess, he took the moniker of "Steelwall" and became one of the best Cube players on the reborn Cybertron, even winning the 217th All-Bot Brawl for his team, being awarded MVP and with it one of the few remaining pre-war cubes as a prize.
That cube ended up being his undoing. While the Hammerers were on tour in Iacon, a couple of former Vehicon construction workers attempted to take his antique cube, planning to sell it on the black market.
When Grimlock took it back he did so with his characteristic strength and efficiency, which took the form of lobbing one of the match cubes at their heads. This display of brutal protection attracted the attention of the Iacon Guard, who arrested him on the spot.
Unfortunately, the Iacon Guard had been fully subverted by Cyclonus and his new council by this point, and Grimlock's name tripped up a warning as a "dangerous element." It didn't matter that it had been a different bot by that name, his dinosaur mode was enough for them to confuse the two. He was imprisoned on the Alchemor, which ironically ultimately turned him into the kind of hero he was accused of being, worthy of being blacklisted by his own deeds.
When Cyclonus was brought down, Grimlock's name was cleared, and he was able to recover his prized cube from the Iacon vaults. Although by this stage, the Hydrohex Hammers had been shut down, and his cube playing days seemed behind him.
Still, some bots still remembered the strength and fortitude of Steelwall, which was sure to bring Grimlock some joy.
