I haven't gotten to play the new patch yet but I've been stewing on Dietrich's lore and the time between EoD and SOTO. So just some wrambling because I haven't actually put it down anywhere lol.

Dietrich is my Canon commander and always will be. Hye-Jin is my Wayfinder-in my lore, she has been part of the Astral Ward and was specifically sent to the guild to keep an eye on Dietrich and the others. She's been with them several years now and is unimaginably attached to the Scribes Guild.

Dietrich is lost after Aurene leaves. Already struggling with the demons of his past and the trauma of everything that has happened, Aurene's departure is practically more than he can take. Rio and the others are extremely worried-Caithe is the only one who can truly understand the hole in his chest, and even then, the experience is different. Fighting the demons in the mines, he is clearly unstable. Everyone is walking on eggshells around him.

Dietrich trying to reach out, and realizing he is on the edge of so many lives now. No one is available to talk- even the relationship he had been pursuing with Yao felt like like an afterthought. Although they were the only one to answer, he couldn't bring himself to beg them to talk with him. He's on the edge of ever widening gorge, separated from the world he's fought so hard to protect.

Hye-Jin meanwhile is trying to deal with the Kryptis invasions and heads to Gendarren Fields. Dietrich notices Hye-Jin's bizarre behavior and follows her,sneaking into the camp. They confront eachother as the rift opens-Hye-Jin in full panic-Commander, you can't be here! Dietrich refusing to back down-he won't lose someone else, and these monsters are like nothing they have seen. They end up being pulled into Nayos together-Dietrich coming to first, Hye-Jin heavily injured. It is time to fight for their lives.

Meanwhile, Rio can't find Dietrich. His paperwork was finished( unusual) and left on the desk. His weapons are gone though and so is his Lion Griffon. There's a gnawing in her stomach. Something isn't right. She contacts everyone in the guild. No one has heard from Dietrich or seen him. He's not answering his comms. Akula mentions that Hye-Jin also doesn't seem to be around. They can't get through to Taimi's lab. Rio can only think they're both there, Dietrich staying with Yao, Hye-Jin cooped up studying. Cue Rio,Ion and several others traveling through the gate to Cantha.

But when she arrives, bursting in and surprising Yao and Taimi in the middle of a days long research project, they have no idea what is going on. Rio collapses onto the floor sobbing. Her best friend, their commander, their leader, is gone without a trace. How could this have happened? How did they miss it? It was too much. His connection with Aurene and the loss of that had weighed to heavily.

Yao is distraught. Why hadn't they remembered to call him back? Better yet, why hadn't they just taken a moment to talk to him? Taimi is furious with herself that she didn't pick up. As they contact their friends across Tyria, a hollow feeling forms-why hadn't they been there for Dietrich when he had always been there for him?

The mystery lies in where Hye-Jin went. They manage to track her to Lion's Arch but nothing further. Holding onto a small hope that they're together and alive, they continue to search.

Months go by while Dietrich and Hye-Jin travel and fight within the wizards tower and Nayos. Peitha jumps back and forth between the Commander and the Wayfinder. What interesting creatures they are. Dietrich fights, clawing his way through grief and trauma. He wonders how everyone is doing but feels that they'll be completely fine without him. They already were. His sole mission right now is to provide the fire power Hye-Jin needs.

Back in Tyria, it is like they have been holding their breathe since Dietrich and Hye-Jin were confirmed missing. Caithe is positive both are alive, but no one knows what to think. The tracking team is exhausted- they've searched everywhere with no luck. They are starting to lose hope, until Taimi's communications device crackles to life-Zojja's voice on the other end, and with her, Dietrich and Hye-Jin,clearly tired but alive. They were alive.

This show just keeps on getting better and better. I feel like it's definitely going to be a series that I binge watch again and again.

The romance between Hye-Jin and Joon-ho is just, I don't have the words to describe it well tbh, so full of tenderness and mutual respect and love and a match of intelligence. I hope they're able to weather the oncoming storm together (because it's definitely coming) I hope they realise they're stronger together than they are apart. I hate it when couples in k dramas break up for silly reasons and then get back together in the final episode.
