Hyemoschus aquaticus- Water Chevrotain
Water Chevrotain
(Hyemoschus aquaticus)
is also known as the fanged deer, it s a small deer-like ruminant that can be found in tropical African jungles in western and central Africa they are short and stock and grow only to 80cm in length and weigh around 10 kilogram. surprisingly they are good swimmers and divers ,earning the water in their name, they usually never stray far from a water source as they will jump in to the water when threatened. Males have small tusks (why they can be called fanged deer). they are nocturnal and solitary having a diet of fruit and plants. they have many predators like eagles and other rain-forest predators. a video by Randall (the honey badger guy) illustrates their behavior in more detail.
