On Hyggecraft... and some annoyances...
Last night I started my notes to begin some hyggecraft spells and such. I’m excited, because hygge helped me through a traumatic time in my life and I’d love to incorporate it into all aspects of my life, including the witchy.
I did also google some hyggecraft to see what else has been done. I was hoping to find some Danish witches and learn from their craft. However, I came across one of my pet peeves. Hygge was all the rage over the last few years, and it felt like everyone latched onto anything Scandi. Thing is, broad stroking cultures... yeah... not cool. Specific example: Hygge is Danish. From Denmark. Fika is Swedish. From Sweden. To say that “To fika is very hygge[lig]”... well, taking coffee with friends is hygge, but they’re from two different cultures. (Also, yes, the proper form of the word there is hyggelig. But that’s just me being a brat.) It’s like when I see recipes for “African Nut Stew” ... Africa is a freaking huge continent with a huge variety of cultures. It’s just as bad as “Asian salad.”Â
Anyway. Annoyances aside. After I do some test runs, I’ll be glad to share my notes. Let’s all get cozy and content together.
